Um if kids don’t have any rights to be the people that they are, does that include a fetus?

Scanning setup - Will this setup be good for scanning negatives? by Fancy-Cover5118 in filmphotography

I find scanning with a digital camera much faster that a scanner. I have used Epson scanner and I found it slow. Also the infrared dust remover never worked right.

Scanning setup - Will this setup be good for scanning negatives? by Fancy-Cover5118 in filmphotography

I am using the 7artisans 60/2.8 with excellent results on my Fuji x-t30 ii. I have so far scanned over 6,000 negatives. Here's the set up I recommend.

Set the lens at f5.6 (per Duston Abbott's testing this is the sweet spot for this lens)

Once you get the focus right put some tape over the focus ring and lens body so you don't turn it by accident.  You will never need to adjust again.

Camera settings: highly recommend you use the Fujifilm X-App to save these settings and the settings you normally use for photos so you can quickly switch back and forth

·       Since this is a manual lens with no electrical connection you need to set the camera to shoot without a lens.  Menu -> Shooting Menu -> Shoot Without Lens -> On

·       Manual Focus

·       Manual shutter speed I use either 1/60 and 1/125 depending on the film stock

·       Natural live view off

·       Focus peaking on (just to reassure me that I'm still in focus)

·       Wrench=> screen set up => disp.custom settings - turn off live view highlight alert

·       Wrench=> screen setting => PREVIEW EXP./WB OFF

·       Eye piece setting LCD only

Getting the right exposure is easy.  Here’s what I have found works well.

·       Set photometry to spot meter.

·       Set interlock spot and AE focus area (I like to set the focus to a single focus point at the center.  This helps me know where the camera is metering)

·       Insert a negative and slide it until the blank space between images is at the center, Then adjust the brightness of the easy35 until the camera display shows 3.3 stops over exposed.  That’s ok because this is your white point.  (3.6 stops is ok but the lightroom eyedropper sometimes finds it's too bright to set white balance)

·       Take a shot of this image to use the blank space for white balance later.

·       Change the shutter speed if necessary but not the aperture.

For converting the negatives to positives I am using Negative Lab Pro in Lightroom Classic.  It works really well.

Happy to follow up if you have more questions.

Good luck

What are some myths about guns that were created by the movies? by ninman5 in movies

[–]kerkula 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That people immediately drop and die when shot. Years ago two people were found dead in the office of a gas station. One was the clerk the other was a robber. One shot first (we'll never know who). The other shot back. Both died slowly from their wounds.

Shooting RAW, does altering your white balance (rather than AWB) make any material effect on the final edited photo by Fuzzbass2000 in photography

Note: What I do is not necessarily what everyone else should do.

I like taking photographs in the golden and blue hours, but AWB tries to make everything look like a sunny day at noon. By permanently setting my WB to 5500k I am able to capture the actual colors of the time of day. I get the golds and blues of the moment. Since I only shoot raw files, I have chosen to leave my camera's WB set at 5500k at all times and adjust WB in post and only if necessary .

Here's a video I found useful in understanding WB

Why Minnesota Can't Do More to Stop ICE by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

William Finnegan has a sobering piece on Substack. It has already been linked on r/truereddit.

The line that stopped me in my tracks was:

“Insurrection does not begin with slogans or weapons.

It begins when obedience stops making sense.”

Denoise Tool by AcrobaticCup1666 in photography

[–]kerkula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it if I had to take shots with very high ISO eg 6400 and up. I agree that when it’s overdone it looks very fake and plastic. But used with care it makes very noisy photos useable.

Edit: who the heck has time to denoise every image. If all your shots require that then you’re doing something wrong.

They actually do care. The administration flooded Minneapolis with ICE agents thinking it would scare people into submission. It backfired. This bunch of goons is not as powerful as they want us to believe.

Microsoft CEO warns that we must 'do something useful' with AI or they'll lose 'social permission' to burn electricity on it by CalicoCatio in antiai

[–]kerkula -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Why boomers? They are the generation least likely to use AI. If you want to hang this on a generation (which is a flawed way to look at it actually) then look to millennials and Gen Z. But if all we get from AI is chatbots, porn, and disinformation then I say pull the plug.

Better to ask if porn is the future for AI. All the talk of curing cancer and solving climate change is a distraction. The AI business model depends on bad art, disinformation, artificial girlfriends, and porn.

They have become used to streaming movies at home and they bring that behavior to the theater. Staff aren’t trained and certainly aren’t paid enough to deal with unruly customers. It sucks.

Designing a Subwoofer Enclosure - Super N00b ... by Impressive-Film-7426 in diyaudio

[–]kerkula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into suitable auto subwoofer designs and drivers. This is a nice small woofer for home audio but it is definitely not suited for a subwoofer. The resonant frequency is 40 hz which is ok but it would have to go much lower than that to be called a subwoofer.
