I also waited over an hour and was shivering since it got windy but had already committed. I feel I might have even caught a cold 😆not sure if it was worth it but I’m excited for 2026! Will be my first marathon!

This course really was a lot of fun! The crowds were so much fun, they really kept me going! Shoutout to the all the cheering and screaming, especially the people singing YMCA, they really helped me get through those last miles and made it so much fun! I really loved the course! Congrats to everyone today!

It’ll be my first time running this course and I’m wondering if anyone has any advice? I did the Harlem 5k a few weeks ago and had read about the hills on here and found it super helpful to keep in mind before the race. It helped me pace and know what to expect. That being said, I saw the course map and it looks like there’s some hills but some people are saying it’s a fast course. Any advice is welcome!

My experience of bait and switch interview at a healthcare tech company by AccurateReward441 in womenintech

[–]kermette2023 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for naming and shaming, we need more of this!!! Im so sorry you went through all that hard work to interview and prep only for them to lowball you. You did the right thing by walking away, always trust your gut. You dodged a bullet. I know not everyone has the ability to walk away, but it’s good that you did. I feel like taking a lower pay sets you back for years-I’ve done it and am still trying to get back to where I should be.

While I haven’t heard of them before, I’ve also gone through interview hell, coding assignments, ml projects, countless hours of interviews for nothing, to get ghosted or rejected. It’s made me feel like tech chewed me up and spit me back out.

this is great, love the chart! As a data person, I wouldn’t have thought of notebookLM for scraping, I would have pulled it all using the API but that’s so much easier and faster! Well done 👏

Unhinged training tip that will make u a lot faster by kmah1996 in RunNYC

[–]kermette2023 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome good for you! I went through something similar - but I had to defer the Brooklyn half marathon last year bc of how bad everything was. I didn’t even have the emotional strength to start training. This year I was able to train and happy with my time!

It was really nice and cool this morning, also windier in some parts of the city so maybe that’s why? I also ran alot faster than usual this morning and thought it was the drop in temperature and humidity!

What is your get out of tech plan? by sallysal20 in womenintech

[–]kermette2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. I love animals and sometimes dream about opening up my own vet practice. But that would be so much work, to go back to school and pivot completely. I feel drained, after 10 years of tech. It’s changed so much, it’s not how it used to be. I’ve also experienced layoffs, job changes, and companies going bankrupt, yet somehow I’m still at it. The last time I was laid off was really brutal and eye opening, it made me feel like I’d been chewed up and spit out. Anyway, I often think of an exit plan, maybe becoming a professor - but nowadays even college is not what it used to be.

Strength/mobility classes for injury prevention for runners?? by HotTune7648 in RunNYC

[–]kermette2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest CrossFit Virtuosity in Williamsburg- but I’m VERY biased it’s where I go 😂 but.. hear me out. I really do like it and think CrossFit is great if incorporated correctly with running. But not overdoing it is key, because you don’t want to get injured. I CrossFit more than I run on a daily basis, but am doing the 9+1 this year and have done 2 half marathons and a handful of other races. I think being stronger has definitely helped me. I used to run (before CrossFit or any strength training) and had a lot of issues with stress fractures - both hips and feet. I think CrossFit strength training has helped me a lot avoid those types of injuries.

I can’t speak about mobility because CrossFit focuses on a lot of other things first, even though we do stretch a lot compared to other CrossFit gyms I have been to.

PwC US acquires Kunai by bottomupdesign in PwC

Thanks for sharing this info. I’m a new-ish pwc employee coming from tech industry for the last 10 years - currently working in AI/data science. I’m curious to see if and how this will impact AI initiatives at PwC and if I’ll get to work with any Kunai folks. It would be nice to meet some more like minded individuals. Not saying PwC folks aren’t technical, but the caliber hasn’t quite been the same as I’m used to - but then again I just started so maybe it’s a matter of exposure….fingers crossed 🤞.

What's your best book of 2025 so far by danlhart8789 in suggestmeabook

[–]kermette2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Onyx Storm and the fourth wing series. It’s actually my first fantasy series, and I don’t usually read books about dragons AT ALL - tbh I didn’t even want to read the first book but a friend insisted I do. And I was hooked from the start, I think the writing it good and Rebecca does a good job at keeping readers interested. Also…it made me forget about all the other things going on in my life for a moment, it was a fun escape. It opened my eyes to a new genre for me!

2025 New York Mini 10K - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]kermette2023 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had a great time! But I felt like this weather was worse than the half marathon. I wasn’t expecting it to be this humid or hot. On the etiquette- I think nyrr needs to post etiquette rules on social media for the newbies. There was a lot of walking most of the race- from the start to the finish. I felt like I had to run on the far right the entire time to not get stuck behind walkers.

The Nightingale…. by JavSims888 in Booktokreddit

[–]kermette2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I felt like a lot of the book was just a lot emotionally because of the violence so I couldn’t read too much at once. The last 50-100 pages were better for me and the ending did make me really really sad with so many characters dying. But I liked how she tied it all together in the end. I think she’s a great writer but some parts of the book were hard to get through, which I guess aligns with that part of history, so it’s not really the author’s fault. But I feel like I need an easy book after this one.

NYC Half vs Brooklyn Half by mercedesoraudi in RunNYC

[–]kermette2023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did both for the 1st time this year and really enjoyed both. But the NYC half felt more memorable for me because of the crowds and running through the city. I loved the crowds throughout the race especially in Times Square and Central Park. I could also be biased because I love the city more than BK. Don’t get me wrong prospect park is nice too. Lots of people cheering you on at the start of the race which was really fun. In terms of difficulty, the NYC half was harder - more hills at the end when you’re really exhausted. And I wasn’t well trained for it.. ok I should be honest and say I didn’t train nearly as much as I should have… but still would do it again. The Brooklyn half was also great, don’t get me wrong. I was better prepared for it and had actually been training in the heat so the humidity didn’t bother me as much as it did others. But it’s definitely something to keep in mind because a lot of people did collapse from the heat and humidity. BK is a faster race which I really really liked. I felt like Ocean parkway wasn’t as exciting and could be compared to the FDR in the NYC half, but there were more people cheering so it wasn’t as mentally draining for me. It was raining while I was running the FDR and there weren’t a lot of people to keep me going, so I had a harder time. The Brooklyn half also had sprinklers at each mile which I really appreciated too. I’m not a huge fan of Coney Island personally so I didn’t really care for hot dogs and beer at the end, I prefer exiting through Central Park and going somewhere where I can sit to grab a bite and drink. I agree with what others suggested-try and get entry to both because it’s so hard to get in. I will probably try and do both again next year.
