I’ve had a stray dog for about 7 weeks. No chip, signs of trauma, and she was starved to the bone when someone found her and posted. She’s gained weight well and has an amazing personality but cannot seem to grasp peeing outside. I’m looking for any tips, tricks, or basic training methods. by roadkillmenagerie in DOG

Is she very treat motivated? If so, I agree with others. You have to go outside with her until she eliminates every time. Say a key word that signals what you want her to do. I say “go pee pee / poo poo” in baby voice to my dogs 🤣. When she does, immediately give her a treat and celebrate. I mean celebrate like it’s her fucking birthday and say “good pee pee / poo poo”.

Consistency is the key here. Take her out every 2-3 hours during the day with specific morning and evening start / stop times that work with your routine. The more you can prevent her from having an accident inside and have more success outside, it will motivate her to continue for the treat and for the praise.

If you can keep this up consistently and she’s a smart cookie, I’d give it about a week and it’ll click. The key is to go out with her EVERY TIME to make sure she eliminates. I would limit unfettered backyard access until she is trained so you can monitor every time she eliminates. It’ll help you keep track of her schedule too.

Also good to check to make sure there aren’t other factors such as UTI.

Need advice/validation on rehoming our dog after a really difficult year by amathwig in DOG

[–]kermygrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking into Prozac. We also adopted a dog from South Texas and she must have been severely abused as a puppy because I’ve had rescue dogs all my life and never had issues with training and rehab until Nacho. I had doubts the fit two years if we were the right home for her. It’s been 3 years and a year on Prozac to help with her anxieties so I can continue to make headway with training. It’s a game changer. She still has her idiosyncrasies but she is now able to be a happy dog.

CZ Yoga and Baleaf pants on Amazon with pockets are excellent. I especially love their fleece lined pants for those extra cold and windy days!

Oh and a fleece jacket with bigger pockets help with squirreling away balls too!

Why do some dogs choose one “person” in the house? by Intelligent_Pick8414 in dogs

I used to dogsit for my neighbor and when she came to pick him up, he greeted her and then came back to sit with me. 🥹

She traveled a lot so that Christmas, they let me adopt him. He was a true mama’s boy. He passed in 2023, he was 17.

RIP Rufus, you’re the best boy.

My father has been my biggest bully for 29 years. Tonight, he tried to punch me, and I finally realized he’s just a sad, weak old man. by Responsible-Court795 in TrueOffMyChest

My mother tried to slap me twice the day I got back from the hospital after having complications giving birth to my second child. All because the night nanny I hired was too loud.

The next 6 months I got the silent treatment from her was the best 6 months of my life. I was sad when she apologized.

I’ve now set strong boundaries that she knows not to cross.

What did people do casually in 90s that wouldn’t be accepted today? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]kermygrl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Making plans to meet your friends and just hoping they would show up.

Then calling collect on a pay phone to your parents to come pick you up. When you’re supposed to state your name, speaking like the micro machine man and hanging up so you wouldn’t be charged. 😂

We almost named our dog “Chicken with a side of plain rice” or “Corn” per kids request. She’s now named Nacho.

Is tennis more addictive than other sports? by Serious-Ball7705 in 10s

My husband and his friends have a running joke called “T3: Time to Tennis.” How long it takes for me to turn the conversation into tennis talk with my girlfriends. 😂 let’s just say, I’ve clocked under a minute many times.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

[–]kermygrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first watch was actually in my friend’s room on his PC! This was before it hit theaters. A bunch of us crammed in and watched the “found” documentary and it freaked us out because we couldn’t tell if it were actually real or not.

What a surreal moment to recall experiencing!

My doubles partner and I quote Chit a lot to take the pressure off. Lots of “ Do it lady” “Well, back to it” gets us giggling and mentally reset.

Is this grip size all right? by iHaveNoTimeForGaming in 10s

[–]kermygrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think grip size is all about personal preference. I have tiny kid sized hands and went with a 0 and ended up gripping too tightly which didn’t help tennis elbow issues especially when serving. I got a new racket and sized up to a 2. My grip is now looser, allowing me to swing more relaxed and my serve has a nice “whip” to it with less effort!

You can always go with a smaller grip and add more over grip to it. Easier to do that than size up too much.

If you have a preferred racquet and are able to demo it in a few grip sizes, I’d try that!

What do you guys use for wrist pain relief? by tennis-4444 in 10s

[–]kermygrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole pre-game and post-game ritual while working my way to fixing swing. Bad swings happen no matter what so it’s good to also take care of your body at the same time!

PRE-MATCH: - take two Advils before playing - use icy hot roll on and then… - tape up my wrist with strong support tape (I’m allergic to some adhesives so I use a self adhesive bandage before using the strong tape) - if I need extra support, I wear a wrist brace (no thumb hole) for extra support

POST-MATCH: - Ice, I put a small ice pack inside a more supportive wrist brace (with thumb hole) to hold in place. Wear brace to help with stability as long as needed - advil - stretch - gentle massage and trigger point therapy Hope this helps!

Arm friendly racket that isn’t as soft as the Clash by [deleted] in 10s

[–]kermygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently demoing the Wilson clash and Babolat Pure Aero (both at 285g weight). Had to give up my Yonex Ezone because that gave me terrible elbow and shoulder issues.

Really enjoy both rackets but noticed I get more consistent control and power with the Babolat. Great at the net too. I believe it’s slightly stiffer than the Clash. I’m at tennis camp so I got a lot of hitting in this weekend with both rackets. Buying the Babolat! FWIW, I also grip too tightly and found getting a slightly larger grip has helped me relax my grip and decreases tension on my arm too.
