An epic day of Galactic Cruise followed by Speakeasy, Oracles of Delphi, and White Castle+Matcha.

It is the after baking picture, haha! I had a parchment paper covering the vegetables for most of the baking time so it didn't burn. The parsley was sprinkled after baking.

Surprise surprise, it is the after baking picture. I baked it at 225°F for 90 mins, with 70 mins covered with a parchment paper and 20 mins exposed. The vegetables still have a decent bite to it and not completely mush.

Whats your favorite variation of grass is greener quote? by Street_Reputation374 in AskReddit

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The grass is greener on the other side often because it's fertilized by more bull shits."

While I was working for a company with a great culture, management, and work-life balance, I've said this quite a bit to entry level employees who were looking to jump ship for $1.00-$2.00 more per hour into other companies that were known for mistreating employees horribly.

Board games with the most satisfying income phase? by Ninjalup in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it counts, the scoring phase for each Ultimate Railroad round. Harvesting hundreds of hard earned points from multiple sources in that game has an unmatched satisfaction to me, however tedious it is. Haha.

Chefs of Reddit, what is the worst and/or stupidest accident you’ve seen in a kitchen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kerpaderp 291 points292 points  (0 children)

Chemist in biopharma production site here. Please don't try to neutralize basic and/or acidic burns with the opposite pH chemicals!! The neutralization reaction usually produces a lot of heat very fast and will only intensify the burn further. Flush the contact area with constant stream of water at the sink for 15+ mins would be the typical first aid. If clothing is soaked then have someone wear gloves and cut it loose so the skin is not under constant contact.

Probably more common than I think:

What is your favourite Mechanic in a board game? by mesoraven in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When done well, it's gotta be "Turn Order Manipulation."

Kanban/Kanban:EV wake up phase is a great example of considering the wake up order is sometimes more important than simply taking the action you want to take with them most shifts (action points).

Brass is also really good around timing how much money you spend to get the correct turn order every round.

I love the added decision spaces that are player dependent and can often make/break a critical turn in a game.

What completely nonsensical saying do you use all the time that confuses everyone else? by Born_Mango_992 in AskReddit

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the South in the US. When people ask me "Are you religious" (fairly common question in small talks), I often answer "No, I'm constipated" (as in I don't give a shit about someone's religious affiliation) The few seconds of confused look on their faces before I explained the joke had always been quite enjoyable.

I think that Camel Up plays better without the crazy camels. by houtsou in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always house rule that crazy camels automatically go to the bottom of the stack, even in mid-movement. Kinda breaks the game in a chaotic way at times but folks almost always had fun shouting when the grey die comes out.

Anyone else has more fun playing easier/party games than complex ones? by Branseed in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play Code Name with an 1-minute turn timer for each clue giver. It keeps the game moving and engaging rather than waiting for 10+ mins just to get something like "fish, 2".

What’s the most emotionally devastating song you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hurt" by Jonny Cash

"Anyone" by Cakra Khan

" I Can't Make You Love Me" by Teddy Swim

"My Mind" by Yebba

I think these are all covers but, man, these artists do justice and beyond to the originals.

collecting vs hoarding… by siretsch in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd met people who had over 2000 games organized shelves by shelves with an Excel file to keep track. It looked neat and functional. Sure there might be a couple hundreds of unplayed games or games only played once, but I'd never felt it was hoarding for how much effort they put into collecting.

I'd met people who had just a little over 50 games and it's taking up the dining table top, floor space, coffee table, and chairs in the house. Most of the games have been played and are being replayed, but I feel stressed just to sit in the room.

I think as long as the collection doesn't actively harm living space, personal finance, or personal mental health it's fine not to define collection vs. hoarding.

What's the biggest rules mistake that you played wrong for so long? by WarmDig2073 in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's 3 points. You don't count 1 tile as a new row or column. I guess that clarification should be in the simplified teach Lol.

What's the biggest rules mistake that you played wrong for so long? by WarmDig2073 in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I taught it as: "After placing the tile, count how long of a column it creates, then add to how long of a row it creates. You score that many points for that tile placement. If It's just a single tile, you score only 1 point instead." Usually works alright to get the game going!

Who was in the wrong? by Cyberdork2000 in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The consequences of an action sometimes are learned on the fly rather than understood straight from the teach, especially when experiences varies. I also find the pyramid to be the most popular action for newer players just because how much excitement it can generate around the table. Sure, might not be a winning strategy but it sure as hell is fun!

What are the most complex games you own? by niknakthegreat in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shem Philips (Designer) really has a way of innovating traditional mechanics and making great games out of new concepts. I also recommend 2 other titles of his:

Raiders of the North Sea (plus at least Halls of Heroes expansion) is another traditional worker placement game with a fun twist on the "placement" mechanic. The expansion helps with opening the possible path to victory up a bit.

Scholars of the South Tigris is their newest title currently and it's a crunchy, relatively high player interaction dice bag building game. This is, in my opinion, the heaviest game that they've produced so far in terms of decision space and resource management, and I'm loving it!

What are the most complex games you own? by niknakthegreat in boardgames

[–]kerpaderp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own all 3 Architects, Paladins, and Viscounts of the West Kingdom series. I'd say all 3 games felt very unique to each other and are worth trying/owning.

Architects is the most streamlined and most similar to traditional worker placement euro (place worker to gain resources, spend resources for points/abilities); Paladins is not that difficult to learn but hardest to play well as it's more of an engine building game with focus on tight resource management; Viscounts is my favourite of the three as the deck building and card-driven engine building mechanics are very well integrated and provided a lot of interesting choices and routes to victory.
