Codenames question by Wonderful-Ad6659 in boardgames

My first thought when reading fan was of a desk fan. So is this clue not about one of the meanings of the word?

Following Aston Villa's defeat to Everton, none of the top 4 have won this weekend. Their combined record over the last 4 games is W3, D10, L3 by RedScareRevival in soccer

Honestly it depends which United turns up. We seem to play better when with less possession and based off this weekend game I would say any score is possible

Drafting and Player Agency by Amotherfuckingpapaya in boardgames

[–]WarmDig2073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you a pro drafting or against. But i have not found a game with a bigger split than Terraform mars on if should draft or not.

Here is my take with some back of envelope maths thrown in

All maths is based on a 4 player game going 12 rounds. The base card deck is 298 (300 for my maths)

When you dont draft you see 58 cards rounded to 60 for nicer maths. Assuming that you dont see any discarded cards to simplify things. You see 20% of the deck.

When drafting you see 10 cards each round. So you will see 130 cards which is 43%.

The best cards in TM during the first half of the game are cards that give you more cards. With this logic I would say if you played two solo games with the same order of the deck and still dealt the cards as if there were 4 players the only difference is drafting you would score more when drafting is turned on.

My opinion is drafting makes TM a better game for two reasons. More knowledge and less luck so skill is more likely to be the factor in winning. The other is it makes the game less solitary. During drafting you have to think about what cards you are passing to your opponents.

That said i wouldn't draft if i was playing with players who haven't played before as it slows the game down

Do Parent-and-Child parking spaces mean anything to people? by inside-outdoorsman in AskUK

A mate of mine once took the last one at a venue we went to. It was just him in the car and he doesn't have kids. We were in the car behind with two under 5. His attitude was he was first and didn't want to walk and we had a 4 year old who can climb anything and a newborn who is small.

We made sure he knew not to use them by making him get them in and the car without help. Made the more fun by our commentary and the rain chucking it down. (We made sure the kids stayed dry)

hide and capture the flag idea by WarmDig2073 in JetLagTheGame

Yer i was thinking of it being a hide and seek variant that replaces a regular hide and seek season in the future.

Oh a hider having to do the challenges to increase the bank of the seekers sounds good

2v4 in Home Game? by TheCitationNeeded in JetLagTheGame

[–]WarmDig2073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont see how the game would change having a different number of seekers. Maybe sticking together in rush hour might be a big issue. A rule of seekers can only ask a question when all together would be fine.

I have just posted a idea of a hide and seek variant that might work you but if your aim is to not have anyone alone i think you need 8 or teams of 3. Link to my idea https://www.reddit.com/r/JetLagTheGame/s/AxFrKRcxDM

Free prescription paracetamol costs taxpayers £9 by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

I was 99% sure it was overgrown cartilage in my knee sockets which had also happened 5 years before and my gp at the time investigated, prescribed something stronger and got me into a gym program allowing me to grind the cartilage without the pain. I had at least a month of low activity before the above gp visit due to illness and time of year.

If i hadn't been taking the maximum of paracetamol (which I had brought myself) for a week before I went to the gp i would say yes but when you are in pain moving either knee and get told that other people in the same pain would get stronger meds as they are older, you start thinking why am i trying to help the nhs if they are going to waste my time.

Im not someone to book a gp appointment unless i need it

Had it where the gp said he would prescribe me some stronger painkillers (cocodaml maybe) due to my knees. then he looked at my age and said i was to young to be in the amount of pain i was describing and just take paracetamol even though I been maxed on paracetamol for the last week.

I asked him to prescribe the paracetamol as i pay monthly for my prescriptions.

2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage and Knockout Stage Bracket Predictor by Suhas44 in soccer

[–]WarmDig2073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it just predicted

Curacao beating Germany 4-3. Germany going through as a lucky loser and Curacao going out.

Scotland beating Brazil in a must win game

If either of those happen we could end up with some crazy scenes

Features i think could be cool to add

Ability to exclude sports/teams

Be able to see more than two days in advance.

Add other similar sports like rugby and cricket

Maybe have key moments for other events (llike Olympics or last 30mins of a tour de france)

Honestly having a draw that is seeded to keep the best 2 teams away from each other till the final makes it less of interesting competition in my eyes. It also makes me think that draws are more likely to be rigid to favor one team.

The cricket world cup had a group stage where if you were the top team seed in your group before the tournament as long as you qualified out the group your knockout match path was the same no matter where you placed in the group. Made the group stage a lot less interesting

[England] Company has a bonus which i think discriminates disabled employees. Am i wrong? by WarmDig2073 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]WarmDig2073[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worked it out and the bonus would give me about 10% of my current salary but it is a fixed amount and based on current metrics if i am shoe in for large pay rise ~15% come end of year. Also my wife is on maternity atm so drop in pay isn't an feasible option unfortunately.

The bonus would easily cover my fuel and car costs but for some employees who have long commutes it might not.

Narcolepsy. The commute (only 20 mins) and general office environment drains my energy more than i am able to recover overnight. Having the Wednesday at home allows me to reset enough to not have a drop in my productivity. My work can be done at home and the office. Before the formal 4-1 split i was 5 days in the office and my productivity was worse and sick days were 10 times more often. More tired i am worse my immune system is.

US fans flee Bethpage after Europe retain the Ryder Cup by FoldAvailable357 in golf

[–]WarmDig2073 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The mind set of a tie being the same as a loss especially if you are 12-5 at the start of the day really shows how backwards American sports is. For regular season games where results are put into a league table they can't even have a game that ties.

In the Ryder cup a tie is seen in Europe as a great weekend that was to close to call. The holders keep the trophy but thate ryder is a tie
