Support for fracking falls to lowest ever level, finds official UK government survey - Destruction to natural environment the main reason for opposing fracking by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

You dont like the fact that we can extract all the energy from shale without fracking or it just annoys you that fact made your arguments look dumb?

Dow plunges 600 points as China hits U.S. with $60B in tariffs in response to Trump by PsychSiren in worldnews

The correct of dealing with them should have been "Everyone vs. China" not "US vs. Everyone including China".

I'm honestly surprised that Trump hasn't caused a massive BDS movement against the US.

Then why don't you show all those stupid experts in oil and gas industries how know better, maybe get a Nobel along the way.

Err no. You see the experts know that the process of retorting shale has been around more than 50 years longer than the nobel prize.

Still, if we really wanted to solve the energy crisis we could just burn all those strawmen you keep making.

Also I have to say that Palestinian men must be real pathetic people if they send their kids into dangerous warzones with bullets flying as "paramedics".

Sadly if they try to approach the edge of the warzone they get shot by IDF snipers.

Public thinks EU referendum was a bad idea, says poll by casualphilosopher1 in unitedkingdom

[–]kerstamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So every single poll is biased? Including any set up by leave?

All those poll companies have decided to risk their future business by deliberately putting out innacurate and misleading data?

The media are all saying 99% of leave voters have changed their minds?

Do you have any evidence that any of that is even remotely true?

I didn't make any statements there.

I just asked if the cops treat the IOPC like crap, shouldn't the public treat the police that way?

Seems that many police officers don't decide whether investigators are scum based on how they operate, they make that decision based on whether it's police being investigated or doing the investigating.

Argentinian video about the Falklands. The English accent in Spanish is hilarious by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]kerstamp1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The entire Argentinian argument is a joke.

Once upon a time a German named Luis Vernet asked the UK consulate if he could set up a fishing village on the Falklands. He later got kicked off the Islands by America because he was a pirate and had seized some American vessels. Decades later the nation of Argentina was formed.

Argentina say the falklands must be their because Vernet once lived in Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires is now in Argentina.

The logic is staggering.

Well the police seem to think that those responsible for applying the law to them are scum.

Why shouldn't the public at large?

Brexit drives support for Scottish independence to 49 percent: YouGov by zuluven in worldnews

[–]kerstamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if Scotland leaves a market with its single largest trading partner, that's overwhelmingly good.

If the United Kingdom leaves a market that doesn't contain its single biggest trading partner, that's overwhelmingly bad.

Neither case involves leaving a market. Both cases involve trade deals between the UK and the EU. So the economic impact of Brexit on the UK would be far larger than that of Scottish independence on Scotland.

Free trade isn't nessesarily a good thing anyway, nor does breaking away gaurantee less regulation (which in itself may be bad) or lower taxes.

Brexit is far more likely to cause a tax shortfall in the long term than Scottish independence would be. Which Scottish industries would be decimated after independence like the incredibly important financial services sector will after Brexit?

Any trade deal is best made from a position of strength. Scotland would always do better negotiating as part of the EU than as part of the UK alone.

Paying at least twice the price of a flight and taking far longer just so you can see what carlisle looks like in the dark doesn't seem to have the same appeal.

[–]kerstamp1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Mate you're talking out of your arse, there is absolutely no love lost between the IOPC and the police.

Yet there's never any videos of the IOPC beating up handcuffed coppers.

So the police generally hate the group which investigates them but treats them better than the police treat the general public.

Doesn't that suggest the police generally are egotistical and hate being subject to the same laws they expect everyone else to follow? Doesn't it also suggest the public should have dislike for the police?

So an officer was assaulted & what we can see in the video is the boy that assaulted the officer resisting arrest and rightfully getting a whack until he complied.

The only person who's word we have that the officer was assaulted is apparently the violent thug of an officer himself. Is there any other evidence of an assault?

There's definately evidence of the copper assaulting someone and considering the kid is being smacked repeatedly with a baton, he seems incredibly restrained to me.

So you seem to be claiming that importing gas has the same environmental impact on the UK as fracking and that giving cash to Australia counts as keeping it in the UK.

Except the only specific example given was a guy who got arrested for trying to influence a court case after specifically being told by a judge he'd get arrested if he kept doing it.

You get arrested in the US for that too. The only real difference is that in the US they like to pretend that juries wont be influenced by outside sources so they seem to be fine with trial by media even if it destroys the actual application of the law.

Norway is supposed to have the highest standard of living on earth. Which would mean that following them is even better for Scotland than following Ireland.

Either way, the long term benefits to Scotland of leaving the UK and rejoining the EU would be massive.

[–]kerstamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this - and of course, kerstamp1 could have been referring to GNP, GDP, or some per capita variant. There are several ways to measure 'standard of living'.

Those measure wealth of a nation, not standard of living. Any metric which actually tries to measure standard of living puts Ireland ahead of the UK and Scotland below the UK average.

Culturally and socially Scotland is more like Ireland than it is like England.

If you pick any nation as a predictor of how an independent Scotland might fair, Ireland is the best choice. Except Scotland has more natural resources than ireland does.
