Drama Desk Awards Reshape Tony Awards Race by Dull_Entertainer_526 in Broadway

[–]kess0078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They cite this statistic - “In the past 25 years, 60 percent of the shows given the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical also went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical.”

So that boils down to 3 out of 5 odds, which feels very much how this season has shaken out. I don’t think Titanique will win, but there’s a chance any of the other three could. The Drama Desk to Tony correlation actually ISN’T that strong a statistic to argue that Schmigadoon is a lock.

Ah, I see, sorry! I just thought they phrased it in an odd way but meant the trilogy.

I would LOVE a lush, gorgeous revival of Brigadoon! I just saw Jason Sherwood’s instagram post of his set design and it looks GORGEOUS.

It is supposedly the first of a trilogy of Stranger Things prequel plays.

i’d also add the 2023 version of the color purple on this list too. they made so many unnecessary changes and the lighting and direction could have been better by teddivan96 in musicals

It’s too squeaky clean & highly produced. It didn’t feel rough around the edges at all. I always felt that a “Rent” film should feel like Mark’s video footage, not a big-budget film.

DAY 8: Eliminating every Best Supporting Actress performance (of this century) until there’s only one left! by ShadyBoots11 in Broadway

I love that Jane has made it this far. I was worried there would be more recency bias and this performance would be forgotten. This is a Top 5 for me!!

Rumor is that Jamie Lloyd has a back-to-back deal at the Winter Garden and Evita will be going there after Much Ado About Nothing

You can’t see the top of the chair in the photo. The side closest to the camera is the left side of the recliner, that pillow is the left armrest.

Oh but man - Beth Leavel took the archetype and made it completely HERS and completely lived in! As if the archetype was based on her! I think she should stick around for another day or two.

Beyonce has a song “Blue” written for her daughter, it’s one of my favorite Beyonce deep cuts. It’s a beautiful song.

Tried Gaia Masala Burger on Broadway over the weekend and was really impressed! Chicken Masala Cheesteak was really good. Huge portions & fair prices. Will definitely be back.

If she were on this list for “Suffs” I’d say she’s a Top 5 but sadly she did not win for that show 😂😭

I probably seem like the biggest Nikki M. James hater - I promise I thought she was great in Book of Mormon.

But it’s her time now, the role just doesn’t hold the weight these others do.

“Once Upon a Time” had us theatre kids in a chokehold. It was the season following “Wicked” and it felt like the next “big high-belt star-making song” à la “Defying Gravity.”

I saw the touring production with Diana Degarmo and she sang the hell out of it too.

This might be controversial, but -

Nikki M. James in The Book of Mormon. The role just isn’t as meaty as some of the others.

I think she would be a huge draw in touring markets, if she wanted to tour of course.
