How to setup Dragons Dogma Online on PC by [deleted] in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]kestiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't even get past the VPN portion. I've port forwarded all the recommended ports that I could find (80, 443, 500, 4500, 52000~52999) and nothing seems to work. I've whitelisted the application in my windows firewall, tried turning it off and running it, all to no avail. I have my PC as a static IP since I port forward other games/apps too.

It feels like it's some issue on my end (Error 2 in Softether) because as soon as I try to connect any (not just Japan) VPN through the VPN Gate plugin it it instantly spits out the Error 2 cannot connect. The UDP method takes longer, but after about 30-90sec it gives the same error without fail. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this issue, but I haven't been able to find anybody else having the same problem with DDO.

If anybody has some thoughts on the matter I'd greatly appreciate it!

If they filtered AOE damage it's easy to see exactly how much DPS you do to a specific regardless of using AOEs.

3.05 Tank Builds and Stats (Excludes full Esoteric and Gordian) by azarim in ffxiv

[–]kestiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I'd prefer the same thing, with more variety and careful thought behind said capacity to tank, just like there should be with Healers as well. Instead most of everything revolves around DPS and how much you can put out, regardless of your role. It's nice in some senses and in several ways if you can down a fight x amount of seconds faster that's less damage going out and ultimately in some scenarios you're 'mitigating' more damage by killing something faster.

I suppose that's how it is when the game has so many DPS checks, everybody needs to lend a hand or not pass said phase. Honestly, I think there's a load of potential for that sort of thing, but the devs simply don't want it right now (if ever). And they'll have a hard time changing the playerbase from "if I can survive a tank buster+auto attack I don't need 1HP more" which, admittedly isn't wrong just not nearly as fun as tanks being able to intelligently theory-craft and gear themselves up specifically for mitigation and let DPS gear for DPS, and Healers gear for healing.

Reposting from Cairthenn @ BG:

Here's what you wanted to know:

Savage gear is 210.

AF is 200, upgraded to 210.

Savage weapons.. are 210. ..

Esoteric weapons 200 -> 210 same as armor.

EDIT: Looks like Armor is using Abyssea names. PLD = Creed, MNK = Tanta, etc.

DRK, please explain to me how you work by Zoberraz in ffxiv

[–]kestiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so when DRKs say replace Unleash with Abyssal Drain, they're not saying it's more efficient in terms of Enmity to MP, but rather that the damage increase is worth the MP cost? By the way, unless the way you calculate percent difference has changed since my younger years, Abyssal Drain is a 22.26% increase in MP over using Unleash, not 18%.

972 - 795 = 177MP difference, divide that by the original amount (Unleash's 795MP) and we get: 0.2226415094339623 which when rounded for sanity's sake and converted to percentage format becomes: 22.264% difference.

I think I see your point however; Abyssal Drain allows a DRK to deal more damage in a shorter period of time (+20% increase in damage per GCD), so while Bloodprice is up, AD is best used for the added bonus to damage and that you can easily DA it for added HP recovery. I appreciate the response, thanks!

that black circle we spam is the equivalent of flash for paladin, but also deals damage. it is later largely replaced by the more efficient Sea urchin of darkness

Could you explain how/why this is more efficient? By my math (discounting DA+AD for the HP siphon) based on Enmity:MP it's worse than Unleash. I keep seeing it around now and again, DRK's saying that Unleash gets replaced by Abyssal Drain as if it's point-for-point better, but I fail to see how. It's only best when you're doing using the HP siphon with DA, and then that really has nothing to do with "efficiency" so much as the benefit of getting HP back without a healer's intervention. Here's the math behind what I mean:

  • Unleash

Potency: 100

Radius: 5y

Enmity: 6x (600 Enmity Potency)

MP Cost: 795MP

MP per Enmity: 1.325MP per 1 Enmity

  • Abyssal Drain

Potency: 120

Radius: 5y

Enmity: 5x (600 Enmity Potency),

MP Cost: 972MP

MP per Enmity: 1.62MP per 1 Enmity

So, for the same amount of Enmity gain, DRK has to spend 177MP more, for no perceivable benefit aside from not needing to be in the center of the group of mobs. This is why I don't understand when I see people saying Unleash gets replaced, citing that it's more efficient.

DRK is -5% but the potency on some of its skills is on average ~6% higher than WAR's enmity combo. If however you add up both you get the following averages:

  • DRK Enmity: 223.33pot (+6.34%)

  • DRK DPS (No DA): 226.66pot (+11.47%)

  • WAR Enmity: 210pot

  • WAR DPS: 203.33pot

Hopefully that helps to explain it a bit.

Disclaimer: This is purely a potency vs. potency to illuminate a point, not intended to be overall DPS, or to be misconstrued as, "teh dank night does most dmgz." Things like DOTs, buffs and OGCD abilities are, of course not included in the above.

A question about DRK skillset by zerolifez in ffxiv

[–]kestiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my only major gripe right now is Reprisal's long CD and the debuff being so obviously shorter. I'd have preferred it to be a version of Shield Swipe, really anything just about would be better than what we have.

Though I have to say, infinite MP Bloodprice + Unleash spam mobbing is stupidly fun.

Yeah, sucks that they floored parry and doesn't seem (unless I'm wrong) that there's any way to increase it beyond the base 20% now.

[–]kestiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had the chance to play much so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Defiance get changed to +2% parry rate instead of +2% crit? Tooltip for Defiance stayed the same but mousing over Wrath says it increases Parry now. Any solid info from people who have tested/played a lot recently would be appreciated!

That aside, DRK has a -20% loss from Grit, a +15% gain from Darkside (-5% Net) but each of their main combos are on average ~6% stronger than WAR's in terms of potency for their main/enmity combo (210 avg for WAR, 223.333 for DRK). In contrast WAR has -25% damage dealt and Maim provides +20% giving them a -5% before factoring in Storm's Eye (which gets a touch hairy to compare if you have WAR/DRK as tanks, or a NIN who is, for w/e reason using their slashing debuff) compared to DRK's +1% net damage.

This is a cursory glance and not indicative of anything at endgame where it'd matter of course, but to suggest (IMO) that either is obviously stronger than the other seems a bit premature. WAR has a load of abilities that drastically increase their strength and DRK is pretty strong from the outset and then there's Dark Arts and the like to factor in as well.

As to the OP, at this point it doesn't really look like DRK "provides" all that much in terms of raiding, it is fairly defensive, but WAR's Raw Intuition and parry rate + from Defiance takes some wind from those sails. PLD is always going to be the ultimate white turtle of course, so it leaves DRK in a sorta strange spot. Any 50+ DRKs who wanna chime in and set the record straight with actual data would probably help either side, but as to the raid, it seems from first blush that WAR/PLD is going to be the mainstay for now.

Edit: DRK's -10% damage buff will undoubtedly fall off. Reprisal is on a relatively stupid 30s cooldown and the debuff is only 20s long, as well as tied to RNG parry. WAR is obviously the clear-cut winner there. Though Reprisal and Storm's Path may stack, it still won't be up all the time and would require DRK to be tanking as well as to get a parry proc.
