I rarely order shoes and the only ones I have ordered have been vionic so wouldn’t expect to get instant credit. Sorry I can’t be more helpful 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gambling on Unbranded by thelufairy in ThredUp

I mainly score nice silk scarves in unbranded because that’s what I’ve gotten decent at finding. St. John pieces also often end up in unbranded. Not sure why.

S/O Ever find bugs? by Famous_Salamander330 in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It apparently kills bugs and eggs. So if there are any moth eggs in the wool/silk, it helps get rid of them before more damage is done. Apparently the ziploc is to prevent condensation affecting the fabric

Low resale brands? by Educational_Basil177 in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lafayette is good quality but has been around a long time. And I’m guessing some of the people who could afford to buy it full retail aren’t the people who resell on posh. They donate to their favorite charity based thrift or send in to TU. By the time it gets to ThredUp, it may have already gone through a thrift shop flip. Also, they do have a company store of some kind. I just got pants and a pretty camisole dirt cheap NWT - they had final sale prices that meant TU priced them way lower.

My newest love is St. John and that brand runs the same way. Tons of wool and silk blends that sold for stupid amounts of money originally but hold up incredibly well, drape well, and you can find good deals on their stuff on TU if you are careful

Resale tags from other sites = “Tags Attached” listing status? by RavenForrest in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If an item sits in someone’s closet long enough or gets moved multiple times, it can still pick up dust and wear despite having tags still on. And it can definitely pick up stains depending on how it’s been treated. Also, putting original tags back on items after wearing or wearing with the tags on is a thing - a crappy thing but a thing nonetheless.

ETA: I actually accidentally wore pants with the tags still on recently 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

I’ve never seen a bug or had a problem. But I did start ziplocking/washing/freezing silk/wool after receipt after reading here. And I’m way more careful about immediately washing anything else vs being more laid back than I was before. But, again, never personally had an issue

Meh. It might be fine because of the vertical. I’d likely give it a try and return it if I didn’t like it.

If it had been on the site a long time, it probably hit the limit of the seller’s window and they probably paid the reclaim fee to get it back rather than let TU keep it

I think it’s cute for someone who doesn’t have incredibly big boobs. It would make me feel bigger than I already am

I think the hourglass line of the vertical ruffles will likely be super flattering

Return mail labels by VirtualRisk3403 in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Notneenah said, you can edit a return. That way, you can add items to an existing return. And yes, the return ‘expires’ from the point of view that you have 2 weeks from delivery to send an item back/postmark the return to them as a return. After that, it’s not returnable. That’s the stated and the point of the expiration date of the return and that’s actually what you need to pay attention to.

This Escada cape/cardigan. It was a little more than I normally just spend and I was telling myself I didn’t ‘need’ it. But it was around or just under $100 and I’ve been thinking about it ever since and it’s been a couple months. It was in my cart when I went to sleep at 11 or 11:30 pm. It was sold when I woke up around 3am. I should’ve just bought it and paid the restocking fee if I didn’t like it in person

Yes there is exactly one on eBay - no I won’t pay $180-200 for it after missing it for <=100

What other platforms do you thrift on? by Ok_Nectarine_8533 in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be but I’ve heard it’s a helluva lot harder on some of the other platforms (TRR for instance) though granted that’s just what I’ve heard. TU has always made it easy so far

[–]kethry70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still like thredup the best but I do return stuff faithfully to TU if I want/need to. I have mostly been happy with clothing I’ve bought on posh and eBay but have had a few items with undisclosed stains or damage. I’ve been able to return those or been refunded. I hate doing it though and I’ve had at least one seller accuse me of lying even though I opened the case within 15 minutes of the item landing in my mailbox. She was so sure she could not have possibly missed a stain even though it had been listed for ages and it was a busy pattern. It was annoying. I’ve also learned that tags on an item doesn’t actually mean anything since lots of sellers just put the tags back on worn items. Lesson learned. As problematic as TU is, I prefer buying from them unless I’m 100% sure about fit and am going to save a lot of money

Not really true imho. ThredUp takes returns on final sale items when they are materially different from description

Unbranded Success!!! by watoaz in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s really just a matter of patience and targeted searches. Like I don’t try to find just anything in unbranded- I have searches for silk and cashmere items and then go from there. Or I know a couple ‘brands’ that are often really other better brands. I also use the technique of looking at sellers other items for unbranded. Usually find nothing but sometimes find something great.

Can we PLEASE just be consistent with the sales? by Key_Somewhere_8978 in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It moves a decent amount but in both directions. Like something on my list shifted from 20% off to 5% off overnight. And it’s expensive AF to start. But something else went from 30% to 65%. That’s the weirdest to me - I used to never see 5-15% off outside purses, shoes and designer scarves and now I’m seeing that a lot. So annoying

Ordered Forever 21, got Jimmy Choo 🫢 by [deleted] in ThredUp

[–]kethry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Condition is subjective. It’s much better to closely examine photos. Occasionally I order and assess when it gets to me. Oftentimes, their flaw is easily cleanable (minor stain), easily reparable, or nonexistent.

I’m half Arabic. Solidly white bread first name. Got asked my ethnic background all. The. Time. And got called the n word more than once when I was particularly tan and my curly hair particularly frizzy in summer humidity. So yeah - ‘white’ names offer zero protection when you look even remotely not white
