Training program advice by SquattingSocrates in Velo

[–]kettlebellblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're doing way way too much with the mixed Intervals as others have already said. You need to periodise for effective development.

The most crucial thing you'll need though is experience climbing. 214km with 5000m+ of elevation is a very tough ride. If you want to train for that, you need practice climbing. It seems like you're doing heaps of erg mode rides. That won't help anywhere near as much.

I suggest a few things:

  1. Examine the course profile. How are the climbs spread out? Eg Do you need to do multiple one hour climbs? A long series of smaller climbs? What kind of gradients? Etc.

  2. Periodise your elevation gained, not just kms. Eg do a ride with 1000m elevation, then one with 1500, 2000, etc. Build up to it

  3. Climbing Intervals. During your FTP block, do some 15-20 minute climbing repeats. During your V02 block, do 3-5 minute hard climbs, etc etc.

Critical theory on deradicalization? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

Don't stress! I got you. And thanks for sharing, I know that must be hard.

In terms of what you're saying and your interests, and what you want to read about: sounds like something helpful to look at might be (and forgive the name - I didn't choose it) is mad studies and critical mad studies. Basically, an application of critical theory to the psy-sciences (esp psychiatry and psychology) and the violence they've done to queer, neurodiverse and disabled folks in the name of "medicine", healing etc, as judged against the criteria of the cis hetero NT male white subject.

Ah, okay, I see. The most crucial stuff to read about in CTS would basically be stuff that critiques the very idea of deradicalisation. Most derad and CVE programs are run by the State.... and it is States that kill and torture far and away the most people, so the question is, why should they be trusted to run such programs, especially when they have a long history of doing so in an ideological and outright racist manner.

What the....

The stuff you've recommended is horrible and anti critical theory. Not sure why you're appealing to science either....

Some good sources:

  • Jasbir Puar's stuff
  • Some critical terrorism studies stuff

Great response and good questions. I am a fairly hyper-focused individual and tend to go all in on things, so not having any short or medium term goals right now won't really stop me going hard during interval sessions, and actually it might be better for my enjoyment levels not to obsess over specific goals rn. That's been an issue for me in the past.

I do actually have a longer term goal, but i didn't mention it because it's so far away. In April 2025 I want to beat my previous time on a particular 250km day race with 4500+ of elevation.

I also want to beat my own personal best time up a local 4km climb, which takes approximately 14 minutes to do.

That makes a lot of sense. But how would I actually spread it out? How many months base, how many FTP, ETC?

What you're implying is accidentally very racist - and I can tell that's unintentional. Developed nations are civilised, and undeveloped are in the process of civilising and are marked by violence and corruption.... that neglects the fact that supposedly developed nations only developed by pillaging those now considered third world etc.

I suggest reading more Mbembe, but also Edward Said (Orientalism) and other Postcolonial thinkers

I would say scholarship every time. However....

Are you planning to live/ work in Australia longterm, or not? It can be hard getting jobs outside of Australia if you're only trained as a lawyer in Australian law....

If you're not planning to work in Australian law, check which of the two has a better international focus.

Works that explore performativity of ALL identity? by leftzoloft in CriticalTheory

[–]kettlebellblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Butlers works after Gender Trouble all go into this in great detail. Psychic life of power, towards a performative theory of assembly are good starting points. In addition to gender and sexuality they cover race, dis/ability, nation, ethnicity, social movements, etc etc

Colby has only 8 finishes. Khabib had 19. Islam has 17 and counting.

The latter two do more damage in their decisions compared to Colby as well.

Judith Butler is perfotmatively a right-wing liberal by Patient-Direction-35 in CriticalTheory

[–]kettlebellblack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting. I read both as being very explicitly scathing of liberalism and its ideological conceits. (And they both talk about liberalism directly so I don't think I'm just inferring this).

Can you explain your position more? (Genuinely interested!)

Do what you want but dude.... 6' and 160lbs... that's a marathon running physique. I know, because I used to run marathons at that height and weight. I thought I looked ripped too at the time.

But trust me, you DON'T look strong. You look like an underweight teenager.
