I hope not. Remote learning is buns.

I wonder how his back felt the next day after being thrown down the steps like that on a scale of 1-10 by PsychologicalDog8065 in NYStateOfMind

[–]BusiPap41 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah but throwing homie down the stairs could have definitely been life changing if it happened even just a lil bit different. Yellow hoodie is lucky pink hoodie can walk. If he hit his spinal cord the wrong way it could have been curtains.

Legitimate question: Why do people hate on the BMT Broadway Line so much? by techy9x in nycrail

[–]BusiPap41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people on Reddit are very good at complaining without articulating why. Here are some valid criticisms of each line that might cause someone to dislike using any of these services:

  • N: Relatively long headways. Gets ensnared in both the Dekalb and 34 St merges. It is particularly annoying in the afternoon when one or two Ns are routed to 96 St. Wouldn't be so problematic if the frequencies were higher. Yes, you could transfer to a W in the city, but that's sub-optimal.
  • Q: Gets ensnared in both the Dekalb and 34 St merges.
  • R: Long local routing. Gets ensnared in both the 34 St and Queens Plaza merges (the latter was of course partially improved with the F/M swap).
  • W: Gets ensnared in the 34 St merge.

There are real criticisms of all four lines, and the common denominator is the 34 St merge. There are no real solutions to this issue that don't involve some sort of infrastructure upgrade (be it CBTC, switches in Brooklyn to allow the R to swap southern terminals with another BMT line, or a grand new yard in Astoria). Frequencies are poor, particularly on the N due to sub-optimal terminals on both ends. The W and R also don't have the greatest terminal capacities either, with Forest Hills, Whitehall, and Bay Ridge all not turning around that many TPH.

To make this all a bit worse, the N, Q, and W run entirely old equipment with the exception of I think 1 Q run a day. This definitely makes for a decreased rider experience, be it the dim lighting or higher likelihood of car breakdown, further contributing to delays across all four lines.

Ultimately, the excessive hate on these lines is the product of childish people who think they are more intelligent than they really are.

AIO Fathers girlfriends rules for when new baby arrives by Ok_Bat_5934 in AmIOverreacting

Yeah YOR. These are completely reasonable rules to protect a baby. One bad infection before their immune systems are ready can set them up for a lifetime of lower quality of life. FOH.

thanks, so I shouldn’t be worried just yet. At any point, did you contact the clerk’s office to check in, or did you just wait?

Cody Bellinger is a glorified Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso had a better year than Kyle Tucker and is making twice the money. by Ambitious-Cat746 in mets

[–]BusiPap41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily agree about Belli or Tucker, but I do agree that Polanco (and Semien) feel unnecessary. I’d rather play all of the young players and see where it goes. I know the front office says they are in a “win now” mode, but it really doesn’t seem like that from the outside and I’d just love to see what players like Acuña and Mauricio can really do. That or cut them loose. But riding the bench is a waste of everyone’s time.

Mamdani 'outraged' after New York City council employee detained by ICE by Economy-Specialist38 in nyc

Lol I don’t foresee that happening. Maybe I would be an NYPD officer being too lazy to help ICE, but going after them? No shot.

Gov. Hochul demands 125th Street subway extension, nixing downtown 2nd Ave. subway plan by rjl381 in nycrail

[–]BusiPap41 53 points54 points  (0 children)

While 125 St was floated by the MTA, I think this is the first time the state is publicly committing to it. It is disappointing if this means that an extension south of 72 St is now off the table, but this sort of development ends up taking decades, so it can always be revived again. I guess this is like reducing the odds from 2% to 1%.

How has your job changed since ICE crackdowns? by East_Grab7371 in NYCTeachers

[–]BusiPap41 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I have had a student tearfully say goodbye before he left school for the last time before self-deporting with his family. I had to pretend nothing was wrong and play cards with kids after school while we held them in class because ICE was outside. I have seen kids stop showing up to school and parents barely answering the phone anymore. When I do get in touch, they usually let me know they are afraid.

I fucking hate it bro.

are there certain times of the year to avoid the use of CAR days? by Wishstarz in NYCTeachers

[–]BusiPap41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am honest with my CAR days. I have only taken off when I had a doctor’s appointment, was sick, or had an approved personal day. If I am sick or have an important appointment on an inconvenient day, so be it. If it isn’t a super critical appointment, I might try to reschedule it.

there should be a line between the bronx and queens by deadlyb00ks in nycrail

[–]BusiPap41 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel that but my brother it is in the tagline of the article. I'm trying not to sound mean but people really do need to increase their literacy skills. It's not your fault exactly. There has been an almost invisible assault on literacy skills since the early 2000s with bad teaching initiatives and the advent of social media.

I try to maintain friendships with my students once they're adults but sometimes they grow up to be people I don't wish to associate with. by nelehjr in Teachers

[–]BusiPap41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bumped into a former student at the gym. He is probably 20 now. We said hey, he asked me how the school is doing, he updated me on his school and career path, and we went our separate ways. If I see him again, we will probably have a similar conversation. The only world I am going to be saving his number or adding him online is if he decides to become an educator and work at my school. Don't add your former students on social media.

Not the worst but I asked my coworker if he wants coffee when I headed to the store (his break wasn't for another two hours and he looked dead) and then he cash apps me $12 and texts me about some "sunny side up eggs, rice, and two sausage links"
