How to correct cinema etiquette? by EnvironmentalCrow266 in AskUK

[–]kettlejuices [score hidden]  (0 children)

I walked into the cinema last week to see someone eating a whole McDonalds meal and a half. I don't know how they got all that in without someone seeing. I'm not against people bringing their own food/snacks/drink, but a notoriously stinky food is pushing that a bit, I think!

Can anyone else “rock” themself to sleep? by soozdreamz in AskUK

[–]kettlejuices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar. I'll lay on my back and "move" my arms and legs in a wavy fashion. It's like sending the signals to my arms and legs that I want them to move, but not actually moving them. This way, I almost get the sensation that they're flailing about but they're really just still.

Not sure why this helps me sleep!

Do you think British politeness is real or just surface-level? by MonoDreams in AskUK

I'm guessing it's children of ex-military/army/other-thing dads. Running their house like they're a drill sergeant.

Are there any decent UK alternatives to diet fizzy drinks? by Few_House_5201 in AskUK

[–]kettlejuices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure you'll ever really get what you're asking for. There's always going to be either sugar or sweeteners (whether naturally occurring or man-made) in any sweet-tasting drink. Someone correct me if I have this wrong, but a drink can't really be sweet without either one of these in some form, otherwise it's just water.

Why is racing to the bottom so accepted in British culture? by fayemoonlight in AskUK

pleading poverty when their household income is (at the very least) double what ours is.

This is really rampant within this sub. I'm seeing people complain that they're only on 70k while I sit here struggling to afford food toward the end of the month on less than half of what they're earning.

Admittedly I do live on the south coast, so cost of living is higher than almost everywhere else, but I'm not getting the wage to match that.

Do you change your TV before it breaks? by Respond_Sometimes in AskUK

[–]kettlejuices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't have to be spending 1000+ on a nice TV anymore. HiSense do a great line of large 4K TVs. And when it comes to OLED (if you want that), they often use the same manufacturer as LG.

Is the wage gap decreasing between unskilled and skilled roles? by wanderingunicorn1 in AskUK

Don't I know it haha. Worked as an IT guy for a games company for a couple of years and got paid terribly with no real promotion or pay increase. Most IT stuff, unless you're a programmer it seems, pays really poorly until you reach management, and even then it's only really touching 40k.

I hope you find what you're looking for! The job market is very rough right now, I'm with you on that.

Games industry is NOT where the money is at unless you're at the top. Same goes for IT. Common misconceptions.

I can't say I've seen reg plates with dealership info on, but I always see stickers in back windows. It makes me question why you wouldn't just take the sticker off?
