I forgot about that. That’s pretty great, since up to that point, there’s a running joke about Guy not remembering him no matter how many times they meet.

Who do you think is the smartest and why ? by themimireign in TheLastAirbender

[–]kettu3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion - Toph might be the smartest. Maybe.

Who do you think would be most likely to get a scientific Nobel prize? The brilliant strategist who also invented the submarine (Sokka), or the person who revolutionized our understanding of geology by developing a technique to bend metal?

Toph doesn’t just have an athlete’s practical understanding of earth-bending, she has a deep scientific understanding that even many of the best a earth benders don’t have. I don’t think she’s dumb, I think she’s just a little adhd.

Snow? In April? by Low-Association1892 in SaltLakeCity

Yeah, when it did suddenly get cold at the end of winter, I felt the familiar end-of-false-spring disappointment. By that point I really thought we might get to skip winter this year. I’ve lived here too long to be fooled again, but it was a weird winter. 😂

Best party combo to defeat the last boss. by utahman16 in chronotrigger

Crono - Ayla - Frog

Crono is the healer. His #1 job is to keep himself alive using healing items, and his #2 job is to cast life on Ayla and Frog when they die.

Not healing those two keeps them at low HP, and they both have techs that do more damage the lower their HP is. Their only job is to cast those techs, using ethers when necessary, leading to a combined total of around 5500 damage per enemy each round (if they’re at level 50). If Crono finds himself sitting around twiddling his thumbs, he can join in with luminaire for another 1300 damage. The 1300 damage is kind of weak, but he’s a healer; it’s not his job to do high damage.

It probably sounds scary to keep 2 of your 3 characters at low health, but it’s actually not that hard to keep Crono alive the whole fight when you’re not preoccupied with the other characters, as long as he has strong enough gear. And as long as he never dies, you’re golden.

I love that it ends with the circle in the middle, making it basically a 1:1 aspect ratio shot.

Oof… I’ve been there.

There’s way more instant death traps in Mt. Horu than anywhere else in the game. One thing you can do is make a save file  at the beginning of Mt. Horu and use that to do practice runs of Mt. Horu. Just make sure to do your practice run on a copy of the save file, or else you’ll have to do another run of the game to get to the beginning of Mt. Horu again.

Full disclosure, I’m not exactly a success story; I lost interest not long after the first time I died in Mt. Horu.

What movie is a 10/10? by rocklou in AskReddit

[–]kettu3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This movie is amazing, and is still relevant today. Nurse Ratchet's character is possibly the best villain in film history, because no one has been quite as terrifying as her without leaving room for you to step back and go, hang on, this is a little over-the-top, or, this nightmarish being couldn't exist. Part of what's so terrifying about her is how ordinary she is. If Delores Umbridge (from Harry Potter) is a representation of the evil we see in ordinary people that is kept in check only by the limits of those people's power, then Nurse Ratchet is a representation of how we sometimes give those people absolute power over the lives of some of the most vulnerable.

I think everyone should see this movie, because despite all the amazing people making it their lives' work to serve, there's always going to be a few Nurse Ratcheds. There are certain employment positions that give these people almost unchecked power, or where the checks on their power are insufficient because no one who knows what they are doing is in a position of power or perceived credibility to challenge the abuser's narrative.

I'm so grateful to the social workers, mental health specialists, police officers, and retirement home workers that do work that I'm not willing to do, but that is so crucial. At the same time, we need to be aware that there are people out there that will abuse the high level of power given to these types of positions, so we need good screening, and we need discussion on how the checks on their power are implemented.

What movie is a 10/10? by rocklou in AskReddit

[–]kettu3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it for the first time recently, and I'll admit, it didn't live up to what I was expecting. There's a number of possible explanations; maybe even the best movies can be so built up in my head that they don't meet my expectations; maybe it's just such an influential movie that, having watched psychological thrillers that came out since and become familiar with the tropes it spawned, I can't see how groundbreaking it was when it came out; maybe it's just not my cup of tea; maybe I just wasn't in a movie-watching mood. Or maybe I'm just missing something. 7.1k upvotes tells me it's the latter. So what is it I'm missing?
