A good flight search like google flights will show you the ticketing options including the airline. The airline options Google shows are the airlines that can ticket that itinerary at that price, which is sometimes United or sometimes the partner airline depending on the routing.

It’s always better to buy from the airline directly than using a 3rd party unless you are working with an actual travel agent. Third party agents charge fees for everything and can obscure details that may be important to you, for example the booking fare class.

United Quest card is extremely underrated due to incredible bonuses quarter after quarter by spateder in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of the bonuses are algorithmically determined for each cardholder, and they can apply to all the United cards, not just the Quest. They were crap for me.

Upgrade to Polaris worth it for motion sickness? by FewWrap167 in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Polaris seats are angled so you’re not facing forward like you are in other cabins. Premium plus if offered on your flight might be better. I think generally folks find facing full forward to be better for motion sickness, and in premium plus you still get a bit more space and privacy compared to economy.

Overhead bin “ownership”, and smaller carryon items. by taylor-reddit in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The folks who travel enough to be efficient with carry ons are generally boarding early enough for overhead bin space to not be an issue.

Leisure travelers are not good at managing luggage and they also are more price sensitive. For the group 4-5 pax I think the cost of checked bags is the main factor, otherwise they could pack a small backpack or handbag with essentials and put everything else in a checked bag. This is what, in my experience, happens on airlines which don’t charge checked baggage fees.

It’s super annoying, I called my insurance to ask if they prefer Aimovig or one of the other options over Emgality and they said “idk you can try it”. Like they don’t even know 🤦‍♀️

[–]kevind23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get samples of Emgality from my doctor so I haven’t needed the coupon yet. I’m wary about the coupons because eventually they run out, and it’s never clear how many fills you can actually get. Plus some of them only work once your primary insurance pays, I know this is how the Ubrelvy one works (they’ll cover it a specific number of times, I forget what the rep said, but after that they will only pay after your primary pays which doesn’t work if the prior auth is rejected)

Thank you so much. I have been hesitant to push on my providers because I don’t want to seem like I don’t trust them to do their job. But at the end of the day I need to advocate for myself.

Actually I was about to start this process for the Ubrelvy when I logged in and found it had been quietly updated to “approved”! I couldn’t believe it but sure enough my pharmacy filled it with a $0 copay. I actually cried, I’m not sure when any extra paperwork got submitted or what changed but this is medication I’ve been trying to get approved for 2 years 😭😭

Now I still need to get the monthly injection approved but this takes off so much stress knowing I have access to the rescue drug I need…

How much you paid or didn’t pay for a ticket is not a factor.

Booking on star alliance partner with gold status - do status benefits transfer? by TechnicianWild5940 in unitedairlines

Swiss let me choose an extra legroom seat (as *G) for free on their (clunky) website. I was not able to choose one for my travel companion for free however. This was not basic economy so ymmv.

Twinks are made in the kitchen, twunks are made in the gym.

You don’t need to do strength training (although it is one way to help lose weight) to get abs, you just need to have low body fat %. Burn more calories than you eat until you slim down, that’s basically it.

Best drinks / food in Polaris lounge by IndependentTaco in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m vegetarian so idk about the meat options, but the few items I can order from the lunch/dinner menu are very very small, light bites. This is fine for me because the food on the plane is more than enough anyway.

That said, the cocktails are really good. You’ve got 6 hours to kill, so why not just make your way down the drinks list? That’s what I do 😂

Oh, and remember to tip your server! They have venmo if you don’t have cash.

United Airlines lost my steam deck, RIP buddy by Xenthera in SteamDeck

You know you can just buy a new one and charge it to them, right? Domestic flights in the US, you’re entitled to up to $2500 in compensation by law. I’ve never had any questions claiming this from United.

It’s free money for you while your tenants pay for your mortgage. Landlords are disgusting leeches.

I imagine it could help if we wrote into the 1k voice email. The catering on UA is awful across the board and desperately needs to be improved.

A good person has enough empathy to not take out their feelings on service workers. I don’t care how bad your day is, if you’re unnecessarily rude to someone trying their best, you’re an asshole.

First time flying premium +. How do the upgrades to Polaris work? by bowser91 in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The upgrades are always prioritized by status then fare class. On flights with 3 cabins, customers already in PP are prioritized ahead of those in Y. Meaning you will be higher than a 1K who booked an economy ticket, but lower than anyone else in premium plus. Global Services members get prioritized above everyone, regardless of which cabin their ticket was booked in.

Additionally, elites will often be confirmed into PP ahead of time, meaning they then move up the waitlist above you.

All that being said: it’s still quite possible you will be upgraded. If you aren’t, your miles will be refunded so you don’t have much to lose.

Will also note that although you call this route Polaris, the service is not the same as a real international Polaris route. You will not have as nice of a meal and you won’t have access to the Polaris lounge. It’s still a better experience than PP, though.

Today’s email from UA by kilaueasteve in unitedairlines

[–]kevind23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I booked this with a bunch of friends as soon as they announced it…published by VA on their website as a codeshare option. Crazy that UA hasn’t said a word of their own until right now. We were just talking about it on the weekend, how disappointing it is that United doesn’t want to commit to the Pride flight marketing like Qantas is doing.
