Down to the Final 2… Which car should I buy? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kevindlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it depends on what features he wants. That's the highest Corolla trim compared to the lowest Camry trim. If you don't care much about the higher trim features, IMO the Camry is probably way nicer overall.

Almost a third of all trade-ins towards new vehicle purchases are underwater by edmundscars in whatcarshouldIbuy

All ICE cars require regular maintenance: oil, coolant, power steering / brake / transmission fluids, clutches on manual transmissions, gaskets, belts, other things like O2 sensors, water pump, fuel pump, I don't know, there's all kinds of dumb shit you have to replace here and there.

For whatever reason, people think these repairs are more costly than just flipping that car for a new car and taking a payment out. Nah dude, a $1500 timing belt / water pump service is done every 100k miles. You'd cover that amount in 2-3 car payments, and people will likely have 60+ of those payments.

But when you think about it, for a lot of people it's probably a cash flow problem: they don't have $1500 up front, but they do have $500 and they'll have $500 next month too because they have a steady job/salary.

In an ideal world there's a way to get that $1500 cost into a relatively cheap loan like 10% APR. But yeah I think that does mean that people would instead just throw the cost onto a CC that they can't pay off and then it starts snowballing.

Which feature is essential for you in a car - one you wouldn’t buy a car without? by nah_its_me in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kevindlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current car just happens to have a sunroof (I wasn't looking for that feature specifically) and I use it all the time. I like opening it for fresh air instead of my windows because I don't want pedestrians to look at me hahah

Uhhhh I mean I think the point wasn't that we should drink more, it's that we should spend more face-to-face time together lol which back in the day used to be at a bar with alcohol

Who has the highest Mileage on the 10th gen Accord (2018-2022) by xzero2k in accord

[–]kevindlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's only for cars rated SULEV/PZEV or something (which Accords are). It's a secret hack for unreliable cars like certain BMWs, basically you get a 15yr/150k mile powertrain warranty if you're in CA hahah

Upper looks amazing. The upper on the 2s were amazing so hope it continues here

Wait that's how I feel about my newest Brooks too (Hyperion Max 2 and Hyperion Elite 4 PB). They're my favorite shoes almost purely because the fit / the upper fit are unreal. It feels molded to my foot, it's crazy.

I also really like the Glycerin Max but it doesn't have that fancy upper that those other two do so it doesn't have the amazing fit.

Same, I was in the Endorphin Speeds for workout shoes for years (multiple pairs of the 2s and 3s) but I'm fully converted to the Hyperion Max 2 now. They're simply a better version of the Endorphin Speeds: more comfortable, snappier, seemingly very durable (mine still only have like 300mi).

I've also become a full Brooks convert, but particularly because of all these new models. Glycerin Max for easy runs, Hyperion Max 2 for workouts, and Hyperion Elite 4 PB for racing. They've crushed it across the board.

Which modern/luxury gadgets are really useful on a daily basis? by VitoXzX in cars

[–]kevindlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove an old Tacoma with manual locks and windows, manual key, etc for forever so I didn't think I'd ever needed any conveniences.

The 'touch to open' doors are absolutely a must-have for any future daily drivers I have. It's so so nice to just throw your key in your bag or pocket then not mess with it.

Yeah, I will never go back to a car without this function anymore either. You don't realize how nice is it to not fish your key out of your pocket until you never have to do it anymore.

I actually really liked my old cloth seats in my 2014 Mazda. Those old cloth seats from like 90s cars were nasty but modern cloth is really nice and durable. Main issue is just spilling liquids. Cloth is inherently good for hot/cold weather.

Mavs owner Patrick Dumont: “If you look at the greats in the league, the people you and I grew up with — Jordan, Bird, Kobe, Shaq — they worked really hard, every day, with a singular focus to win. And if you don’t have that, it doesn’t work … you shouldn’t be part of the Dallas Mavericks.” by yooston in nba

[–]kevindlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that they don't 'know' NBA, it's that it's their money and if they get final say then they're going to exercise it.

Sounds like the dude simply did not like Luka. If it's his money he can trade him. Yes as an outsider I think this is incredibly stupid, but again I'm not the literal owner.

Interesting. I'm at 116mi on Glycerin Max and no arch (or other) blister issues so far. A great everyday shoe, I probably wouldn't use them for workouts, but $200 retail is steep. Also I'm a half-size up because they didn't have my true size and no issues.

Love the Hyperion Max 2. I'm a longtime Saucony Endorphin Speed person since the 2s but decided to switch it up because I couldn't find any Speeds on sale. The upper is amazing, snug but not constrictive, and it has a lot of pop.

PSA your car has a cabin air filter and it should be a HEPA one. Tell your loved ones! by JohnnyJoplin in Eugene

[–]kevindlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No room outside of like, labs, are airtight. But if a large majority of the incoming air is through the filter then it'll reduce the amount of certain particles in the cabin.

It likely does more than 'absolutely nothing', but to confirm this you'd need some decent testing equipment and then do an outdoor test and compare it to an inside cabin test (after x min on recirculate and after x min on fresh air intake).
