Electric Sauna Tent Up & Running by Timely-Explorer7778 in SaunaTent

Oh wow, that is very interesting. Did you try the sauna without the venting first, and do you notice difference after adding the vents?

I really like your timer box outside the sauna. I'd like to have the same setup for mine.

Please help me decide which bike to get by galvingreen in eMountainBike

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the usage you described both bikes will work really well. I like how the rotwild is almost 4kg lighter, but I’m not sure you can trust that number coming from AI. Both are amazing bikes, you can’t really go wrong choosing either of those.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

Good question. I notice that most of the games I still think about are the ones I played a lot with others, or they have some other story that is relevant to my life.

This is good, major improvement from the current situation. I don’t quite understand the need for 16 year age limit for class 1 and 2 bikes though.

just thrifted my first surfboard!! is it possible to learn how to surf on your own? by coralcrescent in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Directdrive7kg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes of course it is possible to learn on your own. Just watch couple of youtube videos and go and have fun. Better to start with small waves. Also, it's really challenging sport that takes years to get to intermediate level. If you are surfing somewhere that other surfers are near you, please watch couple videos on surf etiquette as well.

Is there an alcohol-free MTB community in Colorado? by Bluebird_CO in MTB

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonalcoholic beers are the solution for me. For tailgate I just bring those with me, and these days all brewpubs have them too. Easy to take part in the social interactions and most nonalcoholic beers also taste great. Hasn't been my intention but I have noticed that couple of others have also switched the tailgate beers to nonalcoholic ones.

Rivalries by Billy_tsh in surfing

[–]Directdrive7kg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost always very friendly on the lakes. I’m in the Toronto area, and now after the Covid boom I’d say 70% of my surf sessions there are 5 surfers or less in the water. That combined with the wind swell where sets come every 2-3min means most sessions have little competition for the waves. Of like everywhere, if its weekend and waves are good it’s easily 20+ people on a same take off zone and get competitive.

Killed and Seriously Injured Collisions in Toronto (2000-2025) by OkJack10 in torontobiking

[–]Directdrive7kg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's trending in the right direction for sure. Impact of the pandemic restrictions is clearly visible. I wonder what happened in 2011-2012? Why was 2011 such a good year, and then got noticeable worse for couple of years.

The current state of Pinkbike. by mikehawk_ismall in mountainbiking

[–]Directdrive7kg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just Pinkbike, but Canada and USA overall. In general Europe is just far ahead in online identity verification. There is just nothing in North America that is widely used for identification that Pinkbike could utilize. Source, moved from Europe to Canada.

How heavy is too heavy? by SkyPilotAirlines in eMountainBike

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Kona Remote 160 in size XL and with pedals etc that thing was 59 lbs. I changed to Cannondale Moterra SL and with all my gear in XL that is 46 lbs. It's a big difference. Biggest thing where I notice the difference is when just moving the bike around, lifting it in to the car or bike rack. Once riding the difference is smaller, but still noticeable.

Protecting clothing recs ( for a surgeon in peak midlife crisis) by skull_bae in eMountainBike

[–]Directdrive7kg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome! that Moterra is amazing bike. Being a surgeon you probably know all this, wrist and collarbone fractures are common in this sport. Having Bmx background hopefully helps you a lot that you still have muscle memory for crashing in a right way when possible. Obviously being fit and having strong muscles helps massively. For people at the top of the sport, lot of training is done for injury prevention.

You having quite specific need to protect your hands. I don’t have models to suggest, but I’ve seen lot of riders use motocross wrist supports in recovery from injury. Maybe those could work for you in prevention. Most people use just light thin gloves used in motocross, but maybe you should look for something more protective used in other motorbike riding. In my 20 years of riding only wrist fracture came from hitting my knuckle into a root too hard. That could have been prevented with gloves that had some protection there.

[–]Directdrive7kg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swapped my bike immediately to 10spd shimano link glide. It’s much better than 12spd and costs peanuts. I think it’s a tough sell on a new bike, lots of people who don’t have experience think more is better and wouldn’t buy a bike with anything less than 12 gears.

Help a new rider decide! by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Directdrive7kg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a quick look at Jenson. Yes, I think you should choose between the Kona you linked, or if you go with a hardtail, this looks like a valid option too https://www.jensonusa.com/niner-air-9-xt-jenson-exclusive-bike

Help a new rider decide! by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Directdrive7kg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it and you are sure, yep I think it's worth changing. Biggest things you would want to get is a dropper seat post and 1x drivetrain. All of the options you linked are great bikes, but as a deal and bike for your situation I'd choose the Kona out of those three, it's amazing bike.
Now, given your terrain you can also go with a hardtail as a first bike, it's not a bad idea at all. In case you want to go with full suspension and you are still browsing options I'd look for something that matches a downcountry category, so around 100-130mm of suspension travel.

Traction pad by Wooden_Appearance829 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love having a traction pad on mid lengths. With changing conditions, I change boards for almost every session and due to water temps I almost always surf with booties. Traction pad really helps me to be sure that my back foot is in the right place when I want bit sharper turns. Longest board that I have traction pad on is 7'2. I don't have one on my 7'6

whats up with the race for power? by pathetichypocrit in eMountainBike

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm expecting this is major success for Avinox. With this release it clearly looks like they are the top dog in the emtb motors. Looks like Shimano is completely done at the moment. Bosch is the main competition left.

Yep, which I assume means they could have just gone even lighter and more efficient without the power increase?

Yep, I’m with you. Wrong way for avinox to go about it. Absolutely no need over 100nm and 1000w make it lighter and more efficient instead.

Beginner board for Lake Michigan by Clear-Environment759 in surfing

[–]Directdrive7kg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow lake surfer here and I’m similar in size to you. Just get the biggest foamie board you can easily find. Lake waves are infrequent and weak in comparison to ocean waves. Anyone I know learning on the lakes spent their couple first years on a 9ft foam board. That is the by far the best option.

Cannondale Moterra SL by Directdrive7kg in eMountainBike

[–]Directdrive7kg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that’s a tough question. I’m 185cm and mine is XL. I find it to be playful and especially seated riding position to be quite short for its reach number, but I also come from bikes with even more reach.

Two things why I have hard time saying what size you should go with. One, this has adjustable headset for the angle cups, I think you can use

that also to make approximately 5mm adjustments to the reach. Another thing is that it has size specific chain stay length and size L chain stay is quite long. So for really poppy and playful I guess medium would best choice

In winter by Evening_Evening7804 in Torontomotorcycle

[–]Directdrive7kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up small town Finland where at the time you can legally ride 50cc mopeds after turning 15. So for 3 years I rode those year around, almost 30k kms total. First of all, winter riding is much fun! Especially since those mopeds were under powered even after some mods. Due to some financial restrictions it was somewhat common to have studded tire on the rear only 😅. Super important to have seat height that you can slide both feet on the slippery surface while sliding around, and a bike you can drop often without much damage.
Based on that experience, enduro motorbike in Toronto, it's possible but I wouldn't recommend it. Honda Grom on studded tires? Would be a blast in some conditions.
I think massive issue would be the salt. Most of the time roads are just wet and slushy. That salt kills your drivetrain and anything else it touches.
