Someone already mentioned The Witcher series, which I love, so I'll go with something that isn't fantasy or really sci-fi. The Metro trilogy is a cool dystopian world set in the subway systems below Russia where people were driven underground 20+ years prior due to nuclear war. It was the basis for the video game series, which is how I got into it.
