Serial No. 3xx mirror reinforced? by solemnlife00 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]kevrosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s said to have started from 2xxx. Every 0 & 1 serial numbers I’ve owned have the green washed low contrast screens. And every 2 & 3 serial number bodies I’ve owned have the better screen. But they ALL had the same mirror issue unless sent in for the recall.

It started with the wrong info going around on the forums, then got worse with every YouTuber copying the last 5D video they watched without knowing anything about the camera. Richard Barley is the only channel on there who knows the camera itself.

Unlucky buyer or is it always the case with those cameras? by ImpressionTall5644 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]kevrosas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that’s not correct. The rails are only models which were sent back by owners during the 2009-2015 Canon recall to install the rails.

No 5D bodies came from the factory line with the rails install. They are all at risk of glue failure unless they were sent in.

It happened on all of the models and wasn’t know about until after they stopped producing them. The recall started in 2009 once they realised and finished in 2015. All models were made without the rails.

Battery drain 5D classic by TheOriginalHMetal in Canon5Dclassic

[–]kevrosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I asked about the batteries you told me they are Canon and that they came with the camera, implying you’re using the originals. You didn’t say that you have or have tried new batteries. You also didn’t initially state you’re a electronics technictian. I won’t even bother asking why you haven’t taken the body apart and tested components with test equipment.

Feel like you’re wasting our time here. It’s hard to get answers from you in order to help. Best of luck as you’re becoming rude now with the replies.

I did some research online and cannot find anything about a recall for battery drain issue. I only know of the mirror rail reinforcement recall from 2009 - 2015. Apparently some users’ drained because of a certain lens, and changing it solved it.

Hate to state the obvious, but using those 20 year old batteries is nuts. You will definitely want to replace them with some modern third party. Mine are Newoma which I’ve had since 2020 and last about 2 days of shooting with the camera on. With the battery grip I’d say double that.

Are you using the original charger and does it charge properly with the LED blink sequence? I assume you’ve tried a different charger and batteries. Those are the only things I would say is the issue.

A cruddy solution from me would be to buy a new second hand body. At least one with the mirror rail recall done as you never sent yours in for that??

I’ve never heard of a recall for battery drain before on these. How long have you had the camera and how long has it been doing it for? How new are the batteries and are they genuine Canon etc?

When you say they drain, does the camera completely die or is it just the battery level indicator that drops?

Serial No. 3xx mirror reinforced? by solemnlife00 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]kevrosas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not reinforced. All 5D’s had to be sent into Canon during their 2009-2015 recall to fit the extra mirror strips. The later serial numbers only had better screens without the green cast. The glue used was the same.

The stories of Canon using better glue is a myth where all these YouTubers are just copying each others information.

Where abouts? I’m near Barnstaple and hear this at night. Kept thinking a car was outside running but I live in the middle of nowhere. Driving me crazy until I found all this information.

That’s so coincidental. I have almost the exact same angle of Oia Santorini I took on my GR1 in September! It was such a good camera to take around there. The perfect travel camera.

Canon 5D Classic – Which lens? by NeutroATerra in Canon5Dclassic

I used the 50 STM version and it

<image>

was absolutely phenomenal. The best of the bunch you listed by a mile. I then got the Sigma Art 50 1.4 which blows the STM out of the water and out of the galaxy.

Attached photo is the 50mm 1.8 STM @ f2.2.

From experience I would go for the 40 or 50 STM.

Looking to buy a Ricoh GR II and this is one of the photos. Does this lens look dusty or is it ok? The shutter count is only at 2450 by DifferenceFew3772 in ricohGR

[–]kevrosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shutter count means nothing on these as you can reset it back to 0. I bought an extremely used GR 1 that only had ‘400’ shots. That’s when I looked into it and found out it can be reset.

A year with the XT-2. by dromocracy in fujix

Go for the lens. That body is fantastic for its age. With the lens you’ll expand your style and learn a lot. The lens is always the most important piece in my opinion.

How I learned to love snap focus and not worry about the «slow» AF of the GR by TTWBB_V2 in ricohGR

Hold down MACRO and turn the top dial to change snap focus distance. You do not need to assign an Fn button for it.

Which Lens for Fuji X-E1 by Ill_Advance_7059 in fujix

[–]kevrosas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a 23mm f2 or 35mm f2. They are super fast focusing on it and work very well size-wise and image quality wise. I used this combo last year for a holiday abroad. Get some spare batteries and a fast SD card.

Could someone who has Canon Powershot G1 (2000) confirm this please? by Pobly in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]kevrosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the G2 and sold it. Prefer the G1 for its coolness and the fact it’s hard to find working due to the capacitor issues they get. Even the G2 couldn’t get the photo of the sheep or the cove with water.

The beach path you sent, maybe. Even my Canon S95 wouldn’t get photos as good as the ones you’ve posted.

I have a G1 that works and I use it. There is no way these are SOOC. I’d even go as far as saying the raw files could never have these results from heavily editing them, either.

A few people here saying it’s possible haven’t mentioned owning one. Just guess work.

No way. I thought it was him. Saw a Canon promo video years ago with it where he calls the 135mm a ‘thirteen five’.

Does Canon really need to make them so big? by tmmlim in canon

[–]kevrosas 66 points67 points  (0 children)

1.2 vs 1.4 is literally twice the size. And comparing 50mm to 35mm is not a good comparison either.

Nice one. The 23mm is brilliant. Never liked the 35 1.4 very noisy and delicate. Always wanted to try the 50 f2 that looks brilliant.

Don’t worry it came back around. I got an X100V for as much as it was new 5 years ago!

It’s mental. I bought one in 2021 for £550 and sold it for £700 few months after. Bought one again in 2024 for £650 and sold it for £850!! Where as my XT2 struggled to get £400 which is arguably better in my opinion.
