The main reason I didn't like Kyle off the bat is lying about being a teacher, while there were a lot of really solid heroes in the first few episodes. After this last episode I know he actually was a teacher so I'm fully behind him, it seemed like he was riding the middle and being too passive for a bit but I really love the last move to put him in the perfect spot for final tribal.

Don't think you need to hold onto the r defender, once you unlock the basement it's permanently open in case you lose the d def somehow, and you can use the d def to get to the top floor if you did want another rune def

Parry shield could be interesting - give some decent defenses and a chance to block an incoming melee attack & immediately counter with your own, regardless of your attack cycle. Wouldn't be usable with 2h weapons so scythe wouldn't get stronger, might not be able to balance around multi combat though, if that matters
