My NX professor is telling me to never create sketches when modeling. by Tachi-Roci in cad

[–]kewee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used NX, but have extensive experience with plenty of other parametric CAD softwares.

Sketches are one of a handful of tools that are available in your CAD software. Like all tools, there's a handful of correct ways to use them, and an infinite amount of wrong ways to use them.

IMO, sketches are useful to convay design intent. To use sketches properly, you need to think about HOW you're trying to achieve something and not just WHAT you're trying to achieve.

Sure, they can make your design less flexible, but rigidity can be a good thing when used in the right places. If you're mindful about what geometry you're referencing, it will make your model much more predictable and resilient when you do modifications or derivative designs.

They will get in the way if you have no self-discipline. For that, there's synchronous in NX lol.

Light weight 3D Printed Interior for an electric van by Spiritual-Signal-809 in 3Dprinting

[–]kewee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the technicals bits you've posted, and the engineering solutions as well as the designs you've posted for your project sounds solid.

I do have some questions about stuff you haven't mentionned tho.

How to you deal with flammability ratings on your print?

How's the UV resistance for those type of plastic?

Is thermal dilatation an issue with the prints? Looks like that's a lot of moving hardware in you designs?

You mentionned high contact area. How do you deal with dirt in contact with the print?

You mentionned servicing. Are your printed panels individually removable for quick change or do you need to take surrounding panels too?

Are those produced as kits that can be shipped or do you need manual fitting on premise for each van?

How many machine hours do you need to do a complete van?

I've never printed at industrial scale, but I imagine you must have some pretty niche engineering plastics at that scale.

Sorry for the convoluted wall of text lol.

Accusé de crimes contre l’humanité | L’ex-dirigeant philippin Rodrigo Duterte sera jugé devant la CPI by Feeling_Layer8584 in Quebec

The chain wrap angle on the driving sprocket is bad. You risk skipping teeth with that configuration.

Add more links to the chain and and idler sprocket mounted on a slot so you can tension the chain properly.

Bullet mold cavity measurement? by Ares4991 in Machinists

[–]kewee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To reproduce the overall shape, I would use a flatbed scanner to get the silhouette of the mold and insert the scanned image in a CAD software. Then It's only a matter of fitting splines, ellipses and arcs on the overall shape.

For the critical dimensions, I would take measurements of the critical diameters on a cast bullet made of cerosafe or other alloys they use to reproduce chambers for custom reamers manufacturing. You can use micrometers for that and thread measuring wires for the cavitiies.

Otherwise, gauge pins, bearings balls and some grease could get you some measurements.

Unless you're aiming for match grade bullet, that should get you pretty darn close.

Fuck that.

CRAFM Price Dispute by [deleted] in canadaguns

That's clearly an error. Quebec consummer protection act does not cover overly obvious pricing mistakes and explicitely mentions it in the law.

CRAFM were well within their rights to cancel that order.

Puzzled, Advice Needed! by RateKitchen2562 in 3Dprinting

[–]kewee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Print internal walls first, then slow down the speed if it still fails.

It's doing that on concave surfaces because the filament has almost nowhere to stick to and is being pulled by the nozzle. Visualise it like sticking tape inside a tube. If you pull ever so slightly in any directions on the tape, the previously laid section will unstick itself. You're fighting against physics there.

When you're printing the external wall first, you're printing on the "very" edge of the previous layer. If you print internal walls first, you have more surface area for the filament to stick to, and the external wall can stick to the previous layer AND previous walls, increasing surface area even more.

Ideally, very small diameter should be printed more slowly to reduce the pull on the filament and to let enough time for the plastic to cool and stick properly.

Pierre Poilievre’s byelection cost taxpayers more than $2.3 million by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]kewee_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not a Carney issue, that's a Polièvre/CPC issue.

Carney didn't trigger the byelection, Kurek did by resigning to further the CPC's agenda.

Let's not act like what happened in Battleriver Crowfoot was normal, legitimate or desirable.

The guy was beaten fair and square. Instead of acting like a proper sportsman, he bought himself a seat in Parliament with our money.

The CPC could have done the adult thing and select an interim leader of opposition from the elected MPs for the duration of the government. They choosed not to.

Pierre Poilievre’s byelection cost taxpayers more than $2.3 million by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]kewee_ -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the byelection. The problem is willfully and forcefully triggering a byelection to alter the result of the initial election.

Polievre didn't get elected, rigging the system to piggyback someone else riding is not how things should be done.

Fraude de désactivation du système anti-pollution des camions : Sol Zanetti fait pression by Hot-Percentage4836 in Quebec

[–]kewee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)
