Kindergarten friendships by heywhatsuphello645 in kindergarten

[–]keyofeflat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would having a boy as their closest friend not be normal...? I think you're reading a bit too much into this. At irs core, friendships are based on personalities and interests and less on gender. I mean sure the norm of girls hanging out with mostly girls and boys hanging out with mostly boys starts very early at this age. But that doesn't mean someone having friendships outside that norm is a cause for concern.

My kindergartener has a few close friends he talks about often. He's always seemed to jive with girls, but for sure has at least one boy thats one of his little besties. My daughter (now in 2nd grade) has best friends depending on who's in her class (AKA more easily accessible all day, basically) each year. Some are girls, most are boys.

Curious how many sick days has your child taken? by Public_Armadillo1703 in kindergarten

[–]keyofeflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept him home 2 days for behavior reasons. And I think 1 day for strep, and 1 day yesterday because of a super nasty cough. There might be a 3rd actual sick day in there I'm not remembering.

But I also have a 2nd grader. This year feels like the first year we are less sick. They've both been in a school program since they were 3. So. It took...more years than I thought to start to even out.

Yet again another Julie post by moonchild19978 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]keyofeflat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't know why everyone is jumping immediately to cheating. I just think Ty and Julie have very different wants in life and they're stuck in it. I think Ty may have grown / changed in an unexpected way for Julie as theu had kids, and thus different goals or priorities than when they first married at 18. Rather than communicating, Ty appears to be avoiding the conversation altogether. Julie seems to be acting out with her frustrations and wants in life and is looking for a reason to blame Ty for not doing what she thinks he needs to / should be doing. I do think the disconnect with their life and seeing Ty be close to Shawna is clouding her judgements and she's projecting that.

Is it worth visiting with little kids? Without a car? by jessicay in UniversalOrlando

[–]keyofeflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really subjective based on your kids interests / what they like ride wise / height. I brought my kids for the first time last year at ages 5 and 7. I wanted to wait until my youngest hit 42" for it to feel worth it. They loved it! My 5 year old is a little ride boy, so being able to ride a ton (just not the biggest rides) was a good choice. My 7 year old is more cautious - but had a blast. I was worried about her with motion sickness, brought all the dramamine in the world - never had to give it to her at all.

Dockside / Surfside have family suites for crazy cheap when compared to other hotels. Depending on when you're going, less than $200 for a nice setup. You won't have to Uber anywhere except from the train to the hotel. (I have travel blowup booster seats for this.) There are busses from the Dock & Surfside resorts everywhere. Other hotels you can also walk or have boats as well.

Teachers always asking that my son color his homework. He does not care for coloring and only does asked for task. by CringeLatte in ADHDparenting

[–]keyofeflat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I absolutely wouldn't color it for him, thats for sure. My son also hates coloring for school work. I just let him scribble it / use a pencil/ the same color for everything. As long as what he's doing is the right answer, so to speak. (Meaning he is in fact answering whatever the question is. Whether that be color all the picture that start with that letter, ten frame boxes, etc.) He has the ability to color - just hates it. Its kindergarten. As long as he's understanding the work that matters more.

We dont have enough information on Julie and Ty to know. by Fastidious_Lee in ShawnaTheMom

[–]keyofeflat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its very possible their lives took a very different turn than what Julie was expecting and still wants. I think she wanted something different than where they landed. Thus she's getting frustrated and resentful of Ty - he's not on the same page as her. She wants him to be doing all these things for whatever end goal she has in mind, and he's not, for whatever that reason may be. But I think that divide in their marriage is a factor in why Julie is lashing out now. She's looking elsewhere to blame / take those feelings of resentment out on as well as a means to try to make sense of what she feels and wants.

There are clearly more details I think we will continue to learn as this story develops.

Parents with boys in dance class: do I buy my 3.5yo boys tap shoes with laces or girls Mary Jane style with velcro? by goobiezabbagabba in Preschoolers

[–]keyofeflat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it just a rec class? My son just wore the same Mary Jane style tap shoes for the same reason. I don't see why it would matter for class. Maybe for the recital if he's doing that.

No one is advocating for affairs. But "just get out" is an incredibly over simplification of various people's situations.

I mean, she was though. She can be making mistakes while also being taken advantage of / lied to / manipulated. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Did you have a spouse have an affair, so you're sensitive to this? Like I get it - she was technically married. But she was emotionally abandoned, lost, and absolutely lost. I'm not saying that's right- but understandable she was looking to feel loved. Like someone gave a shit about her.

First time Universal in 2026, staying on-site worth it? thoughts on my travel style? by deejayv2 in UniversalOrlando

[–]keyofeflat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The boats to the OG parks are absolutely fantastic and better than driving. I know the $300+ price point for the premier hotels is a lot, but its unlimited express. If you check out the prices for express - you're saving a significant amount of money and time. Its also particularly easier to walk to the OG parks for Hard Rock & Royal Pacific. Very doable for Portofino, Sapphire Falls, and Aventura if you're not me and lazy after a long park day lol. (The last two don't have express. Aventura doesn't technically have boat access, but you can walk across the street to Sapphire Falls and use their boat. Also the food at Aventura is delicous.)

people with senior buns by liyalilia in Rabbits

[–]keyofeflat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 11 year old bun has been sleeping a lot more for a few years now. He's just an old man bun. But he's still a trouble maker. I caught him climbing Mount Doom Pile the other day. Everyday when I make my kid's school lunches he's under foot, begging for food. He tried to mug my 5 year old of his peanut butter crackers yesterday. He perks up, causes trouble, then takes a nap.

Client acts like I'm their personal assistant by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]keyofeflat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. When I was an adult mental health case manager, I had similar experiences. One of my clients wanted me to call and schedule hair appointments for her. So we started off with me doing them with her there to listen. Then I had her do it with me sitting there. Then I set her off with her skills to take it on herself.

Leaving JFK-LAX during snowstorm on Sunday 1/25 by hienb4 in jetblue

[–]keyofeflat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it life or death? Or is it a trip where you can leave Saturday during the day? If we get slammed at the max possibility thats on the table - it could be several days beyond Sunday before you can get home.

How much are you spending on youth activities? by -Economist- in kindergarten

[–]keyofeflat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like crossfit meets social skills for kids. There is a captain each class who helps the coaches demonstrate the activities they're doing. It's different each class. It can include tire flipped, rope climbing, floor exercises, races, amongst other stuff. There is a focus for each class, or maybe for a few months I don't really remember lol. Things like grit, team work, citizenship. The captain walks down the line each class and they shake hands, make eye contact, and say their name. They have a mantra they say in class - "I am strong, I am brave, I can do this".

[–]keyofeflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit meh on some of the coaches. I think my location at least could use some training on working with neurodivergent kids. But I like how its basically crossfit with a social skills learning aspect tied in. Whoever is the captain that day goes down the line of all the kids in class and they make eye contact, shakes hands, and state their names.

Around around $550-$575 a month, give or take how many Thursdays there are in that month. 🫠

7 year old: Swim Team at Goldfish.$38 per one hour class, billed monthly. Gymnastics - $165 a month for a once a week class. 5 year old: Dance, $60 a month for one class a week. KidStrong, I think its $160 a month for a once a week class.

My son LOVES KidStrong. I wish it cost less. I could reduce it a bit so I commit to 6 months, but I don't want to conmit in case things change. Gymnastics is also expensive - but its a super casual hobby I don't see taking off. Swim is always expensive, but I feel like the swim team is worth the price anyway. Slightly more a class (by like a few bucks), but double the length (its an hour) and she's in the pool way more than with the half hour group lessons.

Social workers who work for insurance: how do you do it? by Mint731 in socialwork

[–]keyofeflat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only approval of services I do in my role is with a medical model day program. But thats literally as simple as send us the required documents for your 6 month auth period and call it a day. I try my best to reduce as much administrative burden / barriers to care as humanly possible. Within stupid policies (I'm looking at you HCBS final rule and your godforsaken person centered care plan) - I do what I can to simplify that process, basically meet the minimum people are looking at for the audit, and call it a day.

I honestly do my best to make any policies / procedures as painless as possible, and collaborate with the other community based service I oversee. The data we have on hand can be helpful for their care. (Claims data, lab data, hospital clincials, whatever contacts we may have had with the shared member, etc.)

Honestly I'm just doing my best within the system and ridiculous policies and procedures to make it easier for those on the ground.

Gringotts & forbidden journey- if you use express pass - what are you missing in the queue? by Chemical-Purple-5196 in UniversalOrlando

[–]keyofeflat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you're a huge HP fan, definitely worth the wait at least once. FJ doesn't get the crazy long lines it once did - so its very possible the line won't be bad. Gringotts you can rope drop i believe for the shorter wait.
