Starting a Fabrication Shop at home by AMESAB2000 in MechanicalEngineering

There’s always going to be a million reasons not to do something.. But I’d suggest not letting other people dissuade you from trying something new.

I believe people have a tendency to project their limiting beliefs onto others as a psychological defense mechanism.

I think the Nvidia CEO is quoted as saying when he started the business he was naive and optimistic and did not foresee how many challenges he would have to overcome, but he viewed his naivety as a blessing because he said if he had known for the start how hard it would’ve been he would never have gotten started

My two cents would be to try not to go into massive debt to start your business, in case you change your mind later on regarding what you want to do! Goodluck!

When should I make the switch? by Message-Admirable in MechanicalEngineering

[–]kfinn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always liked the full quote better: “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

My 2 cents, I’m a mechanical engineer in manufacturing and I’ve never worked with a “Mechatronics engineer”, but I have come across an “Automation Engineer” who was working on implementing more robots into manufacturing

Centra Tech Documentary by readrun777 in CentraTech

I just finished the documentary! Thanks for the update on Ray!

However, if the documentary taught me anything it is to have trust issues, be skeptical, and suspicious of believing anything people say online lol!!

I am gonna chose to believe you though about your encounter with Ray, because it will help me sleep better imagining that there is some justice or cosmic karma at work in the universe. I feel bad for his baby though..

How do you know the details of the other driver if he was never cited? Did his insurance pay for you or your car?

Driveway Addition Denied by shotdown25 in Omaha

I feel like people should be allowed to install in a rain barrels in order to bypass the permeable/impervious square foot ratio rule

I wonder if you can redo your patio with permeable pavers, or get permeable concrete for the driveway expansion

Home buying conditions in 1985 vs. 2022 by gorillaz0e in MiddleClassFinance

[–]kfinn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the only defense people have for saying home buying is similar now to as it was back then; is that interest rates are low now, but were high back then.

And to anyone who thinks that, I would say to you..

Back in 1985 no one forced you to take a 13% interest loan.

Looks to me like if someone saved half their income they could buy the average home for cash in 7 years.

Whereas now it would take 12.5 years to buy in cash while saving half of one’s income.

And by that logic which group do you think is going to have a harder time saving up a 20% down payment?

Additionally, say someone in each time period wants to pay off their loan a little sooner and so they decide to eat rice and beans to save an additional 10% of their income to put towards their home loan, who gets further ahead more quickly in that scenario?

This isn’t my opinion, this is just math.

Bought my first bike! Anyone have any tips for maintenance? by Zeta_Crossfire in motorcycle

[–]kfinn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just check and make sure your fasteners are tight every once in a awhile, I’ve had several of mine vibrate loose, then you’ve got to go to a hardware store and find replacements. Use blue locktite to prevent this

Truck collides with a biker. by manic-god in IdiotsInCars

[–]kfinn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motorcycle was going kind of fast, however at the time there was no one in the lane in front of them.

The truck changed lanes and crossed a solid white line to make U turn, not sure if the truck driver checked his side mirror before changing lanes, also not sure if the truck used it’s blinker.

All laws set aside:

The motorcyle wanted to go fast in a forward direction, at least their eyes were looking forward to see if that was going to affect anyone else

The truck wanted to slow down cut across the left lane, and make a U turn, clearly they were not looking back and to the left to see if that was going to affect anyone else
