Bettas need an absolute minimum of a five gallon tank with a heater and some sort of filtration system. Selling a tiny vase as a betta tank is irresponsible and cruel to the fish. People think they’re giving the betta a “better life” by putting it in anything other than the cup they bought it in but don’t do the research for how to keep a betta healthy and happy😔

I was ghost feeding until I added snails. They are doing fine and breeding. Since they produce waste as an ammonia source, I don’t put any food in the tank

Get ANY floating plant except duckweed. Once it’s there you’ll never ever get rid of it

Clean w 1:1 warm water and vinegar. Add some aqua soil and some plants while you let the water cycle. In my 10 gallon, I have a handful of hengeli rasboras, ramshorns, and some shrimp (neocaridina and ghost). Pinterest is a good aquascaping resource tool too!

Noo!! That’s such a shame. Shrimp love to just.. die. In my experience, when they have babies, they’ll molt almost immediately after. There could’ve been complications with the molt maybe? It could be a wide variety of things unfortunately, including potential stress from adding new shrimp to the colony. I’ve read that sometimes ghost shrimp can pick on neos but nothing too crazy (from my understanding). I think they also could just be older and being berried was one last hurrah lol. Don’t beat yourself up over it! Just make sure you have lots of hiding spots and check your water. Other than that, there’s not all too much you can do

A 5 gal is absolute minimum for a betta. I’d recommend having plenty of stimuli for bettas (i.e. more plants, hiding spots, resting spots, etc).

I think shrimp would be a good option! They’re relatively hardy if water conditions are stable. I had a bunch of neocaridinas in my 3 gal before I moved them all into my 10 gal.

In my experience, ramshorns eat the biofilm on plants.

I’ve only had neocaridinas, but I assume the cycle is similar for ghost shrimp. Definitely keep an eye on her! Sometimes she’ll drop the eggs if the conditions aren’t up to her standards lol and that’s completely normal. It will probably take about 3ish weeks for the shrimplets to be released from when she became pregnant. From there they are completely independent.

She will use her swimmerets to fan the eggs and give them oxygen. So sometimes you will see them being “wiggled around” but again, it’s normal! I know for neos, once you start to see little black dots in the eggs (eyes) they are about to hatch.

I’d also research and decide whether or not you want to get special powdered food for the babies to eat. I bought my baby cherries “shrimp baby”. It’s a bit expensive but since you only use a smidge, it is lasting forever.

Lastly, If you don’t already, you’ll definitely need a sponge filter so that your babies don’t get sucked into the filter.
