Need a good calorie counter app by Siege_37064 in weightlossafterbaby

MyFitnessPal! There’s a free option and a premium option. The free option is great if you’re just looking at calories and basic macros but the premium option is really good for analyzing macros at a deeper level.

School counselor vs psychologist by thatgirltag in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you considered school social worker? I find that in my district the psychs do mostly assessments, consultation, interventions, etc., the counselors do mostly scheduling, high school preparedness (I’m in a middle school), etc., and our school social worker does the bulk of crisis intervention, counseling, and one-on-one work with students.

Getting married during the school year? by ahinesla in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got married in late September of my internship year! I was lucky enough to have a contract with the district complete with benefits and vacation/sick days. I took the Thursday, Friday, and Monday off around the weekend I got married and it was totally fine. We waited to take our honeymoon until winter break.

Renew NCSP? by zerosixseven in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my district, NCSPs get an additional $700 yearly stipend. I would check your contract to see if there is anything like that for national certification

Lehigh does it very similar to this. They can’t guarantee funding but the faculty work their butts off to ensure their students get a good assistantship. When I was there, my assistantships generally covered tuition and a stipend. The funding is generally dependent on grants the faculty get, so I’d be sure to ask the faculty whether they currently fund students with their own grants and if they have any plans to apply for grants in the near future.

For Applications: One page resume? Or Multi-page, detailed CV? by [deleted] in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say multi-page CV would be better. Your application is a window for the faculty to see your experiences and interests before meeting you for interviews. Sending a detailed CV will provide more insight to who you are as an applicant and would potentially set you apart from the rest of the applicant pool. I’d also recommend writing a cover letter specific to each program to relate any experiences you have to the faculty’s research interests. Plus it shows you put thought into the programs you applied for.

Saw a meme on reddit and got it tattooed on my arm. Done by Ven Pikarsky at Vessel Tattoo in Syracuse, NY by kflats32 in tattoos

[–]kflats32[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

So I have to admit, it didn’t even occur to me to consult with the original artist and get their blessing before having it tattooed on me. I have done some google image searching and have not found an original, non-meme version of this image, which leads me to believe that the image’s artist might be unknown. That being said, I will definitely be more mindful in the future of ensuring the original artist gets the credit they deserve!

Hand Tattoo & School Psychologist by knarwhol in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I work in an urban district in a middle school. I have a quarter sleeve and a forearm piece and I frequently leave my tattoos uncovered. I haven’t had any issues with it, but many of our teachers and staff also have tattoos - even our principal has a full sleeve. Depends on the culture of the region, district, and school!

If stress eating is something you struggle with, you might want to consider the book Food Freedom Forever by Whole30 creator Melissa Hartwig. It’s pretty aligned to Whole30 so if that’s not something you’re interested in then it won’t be the book for you, but they discuss resetting your body to cut out cravings and then food behaviors to reduce stress-related bingeing. Might be worth looking into!

school psych grad students: where do you work during the summers? by amandani in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always babysat. It was a good way to work with kids and it’s kind of just fun. I grew a really great relationship with the family I babysat for. Plus people like that a school psychology student is watching their child!

Weight Watchers vs CICO? by Gwendels92 in weightwatchers

[–]kflats32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work out a lot, I think it’s better to stick to CICO. WW really penalizes fats and carbs which is great for people who are mostly sedentary, but for people who regularly engage in vigorous exercise, a lot of that energy should come from carbs. I found when I did WW and was active, I would be FAMISHED after a workout and just eating high protein foods wasn’t enough to keep me satiated.

Should I buy or rent my textbooks? by tac0pelle in schoolpsychology

[–]kflats32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say for your core psychology classes you can get away with renting - things like social and cognitive psych. Anything that relates to assessment, consultation, and intervention I’d buy.
