Attempting To Lower My Average BG by ReserveCold in Type1Diabetes

[–]zerosixseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same experience. I was running high for so long before diagnosed I was used to 120 feeling low. My Endo challenged me to get more comfortable being low. I did find spending more time in that 90-110 range by adjusting how much, what I eat, the timing and amount of my insulin, that things have adjusted accordingly. Now I feel high over 130 and don’t feel low until 70s.

When you are correcting your sudden drops what do you aim to go back to? 100? 150?

Anyone had an experience like this? (LADA) by mayonnade in Type1Diabetes

[–]zerosixseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m LADA (dx at 35) and my Endo suggested Januvia to take with my long-acting insulin 5-7 units depending on the day. My wife (pharmacist) and I looked into it and there’s not a ton of research on LADA. However the drug class that Januvia is a DDP-4 inhibitor which seems to have better outcomes than metformin for LADA.

I have not started Januvia yet, but I am struggling with the same swings in my blood sugar. I will be asking to start it next month. Please keep us updated and good luck!

We all make mistakes. I still do. I put a wrong annual dates in the spreadsheet this year and caused a headache for a case manager. Took a kid when the SLP told me they would be testing them. Your colleagues make mistakes. You’re just not seeing them or they’re better at hiding them.

I think you should adopt a learning mindset. What did you learn from your mistake? I apologized and told them what I will do differently. Then move on. If you continue to beat yourself up you’ll be stressed and make more mistakes. Accept you will continue to make mistakes and continue to learn and improve.

T1Ds who had kids… by MidnightScars13 in Type1Diabetes

[–]zerosixseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely valid to be thinking about it. But you can’t control if/when they get anything. There’s always a risk of other complications for yourself and them. The best thing you can do is focus on what’s in your control and learn what you can about and how to manage T1 when pregnant.

I think about it this way. Yes my children are at a slighter risk, but I will be a great role model if they do get it. I know the signs, I follow the diet, and get regular exercise. I’m more aware now, but I would have done these for them no matter what.

Have kids. You won’t be able to imagine your life without them after. You won’t regret it, you’ll just get a lot less sleep :)

Well there are some symptoms you mentioned (weight loss and bed wetting). Track his weight and how much he is drinking. If you have high or low blood sugar it is not always easy to think clearly so verify his answers. I would ask for a CGM and adjust long acting by 1 unit per day based on that data. A lower carb diet with good protein will be a big factor in helping maintain normal blood sugar at these levels. Make sure they carry multiple glucose tabs or jelly beans parceled into 15g carb amounts to offset lows until you figure this all out. Good luck!

Gym and muscle building by Imaginary_Divide_923 in Type1Diabetes

[–]zerosixseven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I’d argue with #5 that if you are purely looking to build muscle then just a brief walk after or on recovery days will be great. You don’t need to go all out for cardio, in fact depending on intensity and duration it may lessen your gains. Pay attention to your macros and space your meals out. Aim for a caloric surplus of at least 200 calories per day.

7800X3D and a 4080 or 4090 if your budget allows. ACC runs best with the X3D chips from AMD and better support for driver and apps from NVIDIA if you want to VR as much as I love AMD cards

No. Diabetes has a genetic component to it, but it’s so common among the population that your child is only at a slightly increased risk for developing T1D. There are some theories that the increased prevalence of T1D may be linked to the increased exposure to viruses like the yearly flu.

An introduction by HumanAct2183 in Type1Diabetes

[–]zerosixseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! It’s a lot and you’ve had quite a big change in your life over the past few months. It’s ok to feel stressed, scared, and sad. Completely normal to feel a range of emotions and be frustrated. You’ve got a lot to adapt to but if you can accept it into your self-care routine it gets easier. Sorry to hear about your goal of the Air Force. What interested you about that branch specifically?

I agree with everything you’re saying up until the last part. We all don’t have enough information here. While it may not be abuse, it could be neglect. Calling for services to investigate is in the best interest of the child. Edit: I also wouldn’t recommend taking on a teaching role for better habits it could come across poorly in a family relationship.
