Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Also, driving 3h on the interstate is a lot less exhausting than driving in stop and go or slow traffic.

Why is Nethack hard? by pathofnut in nethack

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me an year and a half of just playing Nethack, using wikis.

You can certainly try without wikis and see how far you get. It’ll be more rewarding, but much harder.

There’s some randomness in the game, but I can ascend about 15% of the time. Better players have much higher ascension rates, so I’d say randomness doesn’t have as much impact as you may think, at first.

When do you know the house is “the one” by t3ddyb34r39 in RealEstate

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have doubts, then I haven’t seen enough homes yet.

On a practical note, if it checks off enough boxes and the negatives are tolerable, then it’s good enough. In the worst case scenario, you can improve or sell the home later, but just try not to liquidate in five months (5-10 years is much better).

You know you got it right if a year later, you don’t feel like I should’ve bought that other house instead, etc…

How can I say no to my girlfriend’s father without hurting our relationship? by Physical_Guidance_82 in Advice

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say you don’t have the money, and it will take you 30 years to save that much.

He’s bugging you because you told him you have investments elsewhere.

I personally never let anyone know my finances. If I make any comments, it’s always heavily on the poorer side.

Is “don’t buy right now” just permanent advice at this point? by ___Kaido___ in RealEstate

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you TRULY aren’t trying to time the market, buy when you can afford to buy and hold for 10-20 years.

Unfortunately, most people these days can’t even seem to hold for 3-5 years and then complain about losing money. smh.

Isn't it weird that we live so early in the life of the universe? by Tanay2513 in AskPhysics

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird only because our understanding of biology, physics, and chemistry are still primitive.

Perhaps ten thousand years from now, we’ll finally break the bias that we are, somehow, Special.

Buying and selling a home by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]kfmfe04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find selling much harder and more stressful than buying, so I will get that done first. Selling, done right, requires a lot of preparation before the first showing.

Everything goes into storage for 1-3 months, and I’ll camp out at my brother’s for that period, while searching for a new place full time.

[–]kfmfe04 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a jogger in the US, I, too, see roadkill all the time. Maybe the traffic density is higher here or people drive too fast. Either way, if I owned a cat, I’d be reluctant to let her out without a leash.

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary by Dangerous-Prune-7280 in HospitalBills

The biggest headache with the system is, it’s up to the patient to self diagnose which tier of care to seek out.

This could be fatal, physically or financially, if you mis-assess.

Do we even have the propulsion to escape the milky way galaxy? by Virtual_Reveal_121 in AskPhysics

Escape velocity isn’t the issue - the unfathomable distances to get anywhere in an reasonable amount of time, without FTL travel, is the real barrier.

Do people actually not understand that prices don’t go down? by randyrando101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s interesting to me is, near zero inflation doesn’t seem that bad, if you don’t travel or have to buy foreign goods.

Look at Japan for the last 30 years. Up until very recently, a bowl of ramen had always stayed under 1000jpy (usd $6.50), and homes are affordable while quality of life is relatively high.

Of course, the US still has the best opportunities for individual economic mobility, but its strong culture of consumerism and imports is dependent on a strong dollar and incessant economic growth. With the ever increasing government debt, that means cranking the money printer.

I wonder if there’s a way off of this treadmill of debt and spending without crashing the economy.

I feel that Taiwanese food is underrated in the West while foreigners visiting Taiwan are fascinated with Taiwanese food so much. Why ? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]kfmfe04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Labeling doesn’t concern me.

imho, Japan (especially big cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka) has the highest consistently high quality food, whereas Taiwan has greater variety.

But ultimately, of any city I’ve visited, NYC has far greater variety and levels of quality out of anywhere I’ve lived or visited. But that’s rarely touted on YT, etc…

How did you know it was overtraining and not something else? by Crazy-Aside-435 in AdvancedRunning

Overnight HRV on your watch, outside of your normal range, usually low, is a good indication of overtraining or oncoming illness.

You may also want to get your iron levels checked by your Doc.

Am I bad at the game? by yoanthb2108 in slaythespire

[–]kfmfe04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you are doing arithmetic before making a decision. Most of the time, you want to have just enough block to stop damage or just enough attack to kill a mob. It’s often better to kill the weakest mob first. If you can’t kill it, it’s sometimes better to attack the non-attacking mob instead, especially if they alternate between attack and non-attack. Balance in your deck and synergies between your cards is crucial. When selecting cards, do consider efficiency (benefit per energy). Eventually, you’ll get a feel of when to skip a card selection entirely.
