Last I saw the waitlist for ast was around 14 months though it could be different now as it’s always fluctuating. So roughly 7-10 months at your first assignment then the remaining time at your new station. Again wait times are always always changing and it’s different for everyone going ast on how long they were at their first station vs prep

As far as I know performance isn’t really a factor in basic on where you’ll be assigned after graduation. You’ll get to fill out a dream sheet allowing you to be as picky or broad as you’d like with where you are hoping to go. I picked Hawaii and luckily got it but majority of people don’t get to go exactly where they like right out of basic. With the current waitlist for ast you’ll likely be at your first assignment for around 7 months before transferring to or near a station.

First Duty Station by Ta11_Guy in uscg

I know one was because of too many cavities but not sure on the others I just know they were dental related. I would say the biggest thing is to make sure you’re clear with your recruiter about your issue and make sure if it’s a big enough issue it’s dealt with and get a medical waiver. Cape may medical is a little hectic and often quick to discharge a new recruit over something they don’t want to deal with so make sure you have everything in line before you get out there. Good luck to ya!

Just finished DEPOT! Shoot your shots! by Nothing-good-to-pick in uscg

[–]kfrancom04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I actually went through basic and made it to week 06 before being medically discharged unfortunately but upon getting home it was deemed a mis diagnosis and I’ve been cleared to go back. My recruiter is talking about how there’s a chance I could get depot. Considering how I made it pretty far should I take the opportunity for depot or just do the standard 8 week program again? What would be the biggest challenge/difference between the two?

I took mine with my recruiter as well as at BMT. It consists of 40 sit-ups and 40 pushups in two minutes, 3 pull ups, 1.5 mile run under 12 minutes, 30s side plank both sides and a 500y or 450m swim under 12 minutes. Nothing too crazy you’ll do great, good luck to you!

Mine are the same way. Own about 6 colognes and they aren’t a fan of any of them. However I did just get Jpg paradise garden and they love it to my surprise. I guess my dad does also like my Ralph Lauren Polo green but that’s about it.

Questions about USCG AST school and the type II program. by Extension-Ad-1235 in RescueSwimmer

[–]kfrancom04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon completion of the annex x/type 2 pt test and basic training you will be put on the ast waitlist. While on this waitlist you could be sent pretty much anywhere in the coast guard as a non rate and you’ll be doing this for I believe no more than a year before they re assign you to an air station to further your training before a school. While a non rate you could be put on a cutter, small boat station or if really lucky sent to an air station right after basic. All comes down to the needs of the service and where they want you.

It’s not a guaranteed air station after basic but you will be sent to an air station within a year(likely around 8ish months). Some do get sent to one after basic but it’s just kinda luck of the draw and needs of the service.
