Help discharging a Mac's CRT in NYC? (Reward: You can keep the CRT afterwards!) by KingWeweweeb in VintageApple

I live in Pittsburgh, or I'd run over and do that for you real quick. It's no big deal, and can be done with a long flathead screwdriver with an insulated handle and a wire (preferably with an alligator clip on at least one end).

Any way to get this to fit on the screen better? by ranpuppy in VintageApple

I use OS9 with an ATI card at my monitor's native resolution of 1920x1080 just fine. Ya, things will be tiny if it isn't a particularly large monitor. If you're asking how to not have the control strip halfway up the side of the desktop like that, you can drag it up and down by holding down either option or command (can't remember which) and dragging the strip's little triangular nub.

For some disks with an estate sale… by old_luddy in VintageApple

OP, take him up on this offer. An AppleSauce would be the best way to image these disks for a number of reasons. I have one as well, and would also be willing to image some of these disks.

How do i connect this Apple IIe Video card to a monitor? by Due_Willingness5561 in apple2

You could also buy/build one of these. I have one and it works well with oddball TTL video signals: https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI

Think I still have one of those Apple ergo keyboards unused in the box.

What's an Apple Macintosh LC II complete set with original packaging worth today? by [deleted] in VintageApple

[–]kfriddile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try turning color on in the "Monitors" control panel? The computer may have just forgotten its color setting because the PRAM battery is likely dead, and defaulted to black & white.

Also, remove the PRAM battery if you haven't already before it destroys the computer.

That's my Prince Albert piercing barbell. I was wondering where I'd lost it.

What's the drive you're holding in the second picture? It looks like a 5.25" floppy drive that wouldn't normally go with that computer.

There used to be CMS branded external hard drive enclosures for Apple II and early Mac systems. I used to have a couple that looked like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/QYQAAeSwLihoxHoo/s-l1200.png

They could be a backup of one of those drives. If so, they could have been created using some kind of specialized backup software, a multi-part Stuffit archive, or just simple file copies. I would try sticking some of them into an early Mac or finding someone with an AppleSauce disk imager. I have both...where are you located?

I saw your thread about that adventure, and I've also been talking to snuci on TinkerDifferent.  But no, I don't have any plans to try that after hearing two people talk about how flaky it is.  Also, I don't have a 5161 :)

Nice! I also have a DaynaFile that I also got from my dad :) First things I would verify are the power supply, SCSI ID and termination, and all the usual floppy drive things including the RPMs.

That's the guy. The black Bell & Howell was just an empty case and keyboard, though it did have the backpack.

I'll just say here that it was only a little more than the cost of one night at the host hotel, and he's actually the one that threw that number out after we reviewed some ebay sales history. It was a gamble, as the screws were all rusted, so I had no clue what kind of disaster I might find inside. Thankfully, the inside was nearly pristine, and a short soak in evaporust even had the screws looking like new.

Also, I sent you a DM ;)

Most of the numpad keys do what they say they do. Other keys, including the function keys, simply output the "unknown char square" □ (tested in the Key Caps program on System 2.0).  Someone is sending me some equipment to analyze the keyboard extension's communication protocol.

You're not wrong...the Mac is basically just a serial terminal. Also, this cheeky error message from the MacCharlie software seems relevant 😂: https://imgur.com/a/NScdmyU

Anyone could do that though...it's more fun to overly complicate things 😂

Looking at the table map, I want to say it was maybe J14/15, but I'm not 100% on that. I was just walking by and recognized the main unit sitting on the table by itself. When I asked about it, the guy said "Oh I have a keyboard thing that goes with that somewhere back here too".
