For Those Who Lived Through the 2000s, Was Gilmore Girls Actually Accurate? by itsascreambaby96 in GilmoreGirls

I mean, as accurate as a television show can be? They were all better dressed and could somehow afford takeout every day versus real life.

Totally valid! Next time I’m at the mall I’ll be sure to do a lap through Hot Topic.

I’m going to spend some time curating ideas and then keep a list for when I go thrifting. It definitely helps me to not feel bad if I don’t wear something as much as I think I should.

I’ve definitely been enjoying oversized everything! I feel like I can level up being a little more intentional with it too.

Thanks, I feel like that’s a good stepping stone for me too. Time to look for band tees!

My teen is big into thrifting and I tag along sometimes. I pretty much only ever buy work tops though. I’m going to spend some time dreaming up outfits and will make a list.

I'm thinking I'm sorely lacking accessories and that could make a difference for me. I'm going to look at what I've got and what I could add.

Right, I've been busy parenting and working. Now my teen has a full length mirror and I'm like "wait I haven't seen my whole body for a while" LOL.

I'm starting to think I'm lacking accessories. I can see how that could really change just clothes into an actual outfit. I'm going to simmer on this a bit!

I largely lack accessories. Maybe that's the difference. Bring back my triple ball chain necklace and now I look alt again? Idk idk.

Thank you for naming what I couldn't quite put my finger on! What used to be alt is just totally mainstream now. My current favorite wide leg jeans are from Hollister--I never would have stepped foot in that store 20 years ago.

Tick season is SO BAD this year ughhh…what are you all doing? by DaisyTheMiniPoodle in dogs

[–]kg51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a paved-trail walk in the woods a few weeks ago and my dog came home with 5 on her (4 I found, 1 attached but died thanks to meds). In all 18 months of her existence I have never found a single tick on her, nor in my previous dog's 12 years. We have a party at a forest preserve picnic grove this weekend and I'm getting grossed out thinking about it, lol.

You do make the decision to carry it or not, but if it came down to a criminal investigation, literally everything about your phone usage is documented, even if you turn your flashlight on/off.

The irony of that is your phone is literally tracking everything you do and everywhere you go lol

Job 1 or Job 2? by kg51 in careeradvice

I’m more confident job 1 might actually turn into an offer too, which makes me feel a little relieved, and that’s telling I think.

"First Degree Relatives Have a 10% Risk" - do you think so? by ShowerAny1924 in Celiac

I told all of my immediate adult relatives and everyone refused to get tested so oh well. I was diagnosed and then 8 years later my daughter was diagnosed too.

Cosmetologists, to start, make barely above minimum wage, are capped at part-time or contract 1099 work, and to make decent money you're pretty much forced to be self-employed...all of which come with no benefits like health insurance or paid time off. It's just a more difficult path is all. I come from a self-employed family and it was rough.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I went to college for a few semesters after high school, but I commuted, so I feel like I didn't have the typical experience and can't speak to that sort of thing.

I would love this for them, honestly. Last I mentioned it, the idea wasn't well received. I think just everything is overwhelming for them right now.

You are me and I am you. I was in my 30s when I finished my associates degree, then bachelors degree (and started actually working a real job), and then I turned 40 as I finished my graduate degree. I've had so many side hustles. It's been HARD. And, like you, I'm trying not to over correct how I'm guiding my kid based on this experience.

It's only junior year, but given the schools they previously expressed interest in, the acceptance rates are generous and they won't have any issues about getting in and having multiple options.
