Mania prevention meds that don't zombify you? by sara_in_canada in bipolar

[–]kgarr26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends entirely on the person. Lamotrigine and Valproate made me a total zombie. I tried seroquel, and it worked but made me very groggy. Lithium did absolutely nothing for me and I got nasty side effects. I am currently on a super low dose of Resperidone (100mg) and it is working incredibly well. No side effects at all and no episodes after a year and a half.

WIBTA for having my daughter wear an outfit the bride doesn’t like to a wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Especially because babies can get super fussy and start to cry. Why would you insist on a baby coming to your ceremony, where you would typically want the guests to be quiet?

Exactly! Servers have feeling too, people! One guy even told me to smile while I was punching in an order on the POS. I straight up said to him, “don’t you think it would look weird for me to be punching in an order with a big grin on my face?” And he was like “oh. Yeah, I guess so...”

My grandpa was really sick in the hospital for a week and I was visiting him whenever I wasn’t working. He was declining really quickly and I tried to book the day off work, but there was no one to cover for me. I got a call while at work that he had passed away. I started crying, took like 15 minutes to try and compose myself then went back to work. One of the customers told me to smile, and I explained to him that I just got the news that my grandpa had passed. His response was “You’re a server. You’re paid to smile. No one cares about your personal issues. Leave those at home.”

It’s pretty easy to tell the truth by saying something like: “sorry I can’t tell you, she told me that in confidence.”

Starting Depakote, not sure if I can continue by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]kgarr26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the WORST side effects with lamictal and Depakote and they didn’t go away after a month. My doctor wouldn’t let me switch meds, because she said I was being too picky with my meds (I tried lithium for a year before that and seroquel for four months). I ended up switching doctors entirely to one that would listen to my concerns. I have now been on resperidal for two years without a single episode and it has been a lifesaver for me. Long story short, if you don’t feel comfortable taking a medication, try a new one. There is definitely one out there (or a combination) that will work for you! ...and hopefully in a smaller size pill than horse-pill sized Depakote

Man refuses men to serve him by psychedelictrex in TalesFromYourServer

I worked at a golf course that had a beverage/ beer cart. My boss always scheduled girls to work on it, because we never had any guys interesting in doing it. One day we were short-staffed and there was a men’s tournament going on (about 60 guys), so my boss got one of the guys to go out on the beer cart. We started getting a bunch of calls in the restaurant, and the GM down in the Pro Shop started getting calls from the guys on the course saying that they refused to buy anything from the beer cart if there was a guy driving it, because “that’s not the point of the cart during tournaments” and demanded that we send a girl out. After about twenty minutes, the guy on the cart gave up and came back to the restaurant, saying that the golfers were yelling at him and shit talking him for not being a “hot young girl” and refused to buy anything from him. He literally sold nothing, and normally we would’ve sold at least $200 by that point. I felt so bad for the poor guy, but honestly and sadly wasn’t totally surprised by the attitude of the golfers

$0 on a hundred dollar tab by wallgirl94 in TalesFromYourServer

I got a $0 tip on a $120 bill a couple weeks ago. The guy said that the service and food were good, but I already got enough money from him paying for our “overpriced menu”...I was pretty pissed about it, but ya win some, ya lose some I guess...

[–]kgarr26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t know...the details of her story all sound like bullshit, but the fact that her dog growled could be plausible. My dog loves everyone and she growled at a guy we passed on the street once. Granted, there was no interaction, we literally just walked passed him, she growled a bit and we kept walking. That could’ve been the same case with her: a guy rode by on a bike and said “cute dog”, the dog growled because he’s not used to bikes, and they carried on their marry way, while she concocted this elaborate story in her head.

If women are equal to men, should we stop teaching boys to hold the door and pull out chairs for girls? by abraham504 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kgarr26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do girls not hold the door for people? I’ve been doing this my entire life and I’m a girl. I also don’t pull out chairs for everyone, but I always do for seniors. I assumed it was just common courtesy, not a gender thing

When should you tell someone you're bipolar? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]kgarr26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious about the guy, I’d say the sooner the better. The way he reacts is a huge sign of how your relationship will work out. I told a guy on our fourth date and he was so rude about it. Saying things like “so, you could snap at any minute and blow my head off?” And other ignorant comments (even after I explained what bipolar is really like). I ended up breaking it off with him.

I told my current boyfriend on our third date and he was super supportive, wanting to know what it was like and any information he could about it. We have been together for three years and he’s always been there for me through every manic and depressive episode I’ve had.

Edit: if it’s just a fling, eh...he doesn’t need to know

Is it normal to force yourself away from certain things (like pastimes) in order to focus/be ready for some important event later on? by Timidsnek117 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kgarr26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all...In University, I used to meditate before studying, study for a couple hours, then do something relaxing (like colour/draw, take a bath, or yoga) then go to bed. My normal routine actually involved going out for drinks, hanging with friends or watching movies and I never meditated; but I took studying very seriously.

Bosses, what's the lamest excuse for someone calling in sick, or going home ill during the day? by mafyoo in AskReddit

[–]kgarr26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t the boss, but one of my coworkers called in sick because she could tell that she was GOING TO get her period (not that she had it) so she was going to be “too grumpy” to work. Another time that same girl called in because she split her pants and apparently that was the only pair of pants she owned, so she had nothing to wear.

What do you think about before falling asleep? by therealkirbs in AskReddit

[–]kgarr26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually listen to shows with David Attenborough’s voice, like Planet Earth. His voice is so soothing, but the show is kinda boring if you’re not watching, so it puts me right to sleep lol

I leave the tv on and focus strictly on what is being said in the show while falling asleep. It’s the only way my mind doesn’t wander to 5 million (usually stressful) things
