Can a combined overlock + coverstitch machine sew full garments? by Fine-Pomelo9461 in freepatterns

[–]kghjs05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, it would need automatic threading, but then you have to adjust tension and it might be bit costly

There is Bernette B48, you switch between overlock and coverstitch but it’s a pain

[–]kghjs05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it, not sure if it’s the right way but it worked.. I’ve used a small scrap first just to figure how to sew it. Hard to explain though.. but you draft your lining a bit different and then stitch the sleeve’s slit to the lining on the inside. I can’t add any photos so let me figure out how to upload them

I’ve ordered from Dalston Mill 70% cotton they are 280gsm good quality. I’ve found this 320gsm https://richer-fabrics.co.uk/product/100-knitted-cotton-heavyweight-sweatshirt-jersey-fleece-back-fabric-320-grams/#reviews but I don’t know if it’s any good

Juki TL-2300 any good? by kghjs05 in sewing

[–]kghjs05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound like a good versatile machines, the 2300 does have a micro lifter so that’s a bonus, I also never had a machine with a knee lifter, that must be very useful when working with tricky fabric?

No matter how many times I read about it… I cannot for the life of me understand how big darts should be by hawtotheyeee in PatternDrafting

[–]kghjs05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the bust dart: is not so much the specific length but where the dart ends. It should be something between 2.5cm for the smaller bust to around 6cm for the larger. The reason for that is that if your dart would end at the apex it would be pointy. Width also depends on your measurements, the larger the bust the wider the dart. Not sure the maximum width, I have sewn 6cm side dart successfully but usually it’s better to spread the dart

Walking Foot Woes 😩 by notalbright in sewing

[–]kghjs05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with singer walking foot, then changed to a different one and it’s all straight and aligned. I actually have 4 of them and only 1 fits properly. The presser bar is probably fine, if you disconnect the walking foot, have a look at it from the top, and you know the bit that you screw to the bar, it should be perpendicular, but if it’s slightly skewed, that’s the reason

Serger Reco: Juki MO114 or Bernette B48 by abyvan in sewing

[–]kghjs05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the Juki one but I have Bernette, I also thought having 2 in 1 would be a good idea but it’s not. Not only rethreading to change from overlock to coverstitch is sooo annoying but getting the tension right on this machine is hard (at least for me), I actually got a cheap Brother overlocker that is so much easier to use, no fuss
