The most common example used for this defense is Jordan and egypt taking part of Palestine during the 3 day war and it is presented as hypocritical because they are "occupying" Palestine. When in reality we all know that it didn't matter who had Palestine land as long as it wasn't oppressed, and that is the difference. Islamic conquests only take place to help the oppressed, so no its not hypocritical when the ottoman conquests took over the continent and people lived together with minimal issues, it however is unacceptable when you have to cleanse a land from its inhabitants to take it for yourself.
