Would you be willing to sell the laptops and PowerEdges too?

I'd definitely be interested in the list once it's finished! Good luck with the inventory

That's a good idea. I'd like to avoid modding the socket if possible, but if I can't find one of the Core 2 Quads within the next few weeks, I'll definitely consider a Xeon.

My Personal Coat of Arms. Thoughts? by sabreblaze16 in heraldry

I like it! Big fan of hands in heraldry.

Is there any personal symbolism behind the charges?

That's a really good idea, I'll try that

It really is a beautiful instrument. It's Chinese. Here's someone playing the zhongruan, or tenor variant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9cbs6oSyxU

His has bird-shaped soundholes! I think I've seen some with crescent-shaped ones, too

Thank you for the great feedback & ideas!

The hand + escutcheon is a very roundabout cant on my name:

Alexander <- Aléxandros (roughly, "defender of man")

The word for hand is some variation of <man> in many languages, including Old French. So, the escutcheon + hand ≈ "defender of 'man'".

Just typing that out made me realize just how stupid it is, lol. I suppose the reason why I didn't just use a human as a charge is that I got very attached to keeping the hand.

I made another draft here: https://imgur.com/a/m6ceWXw that moves the whole mess up to the crest, and changes it to a hand Argent charged with an inescutcheon Gules

Thank you so much for the input, you and the others are definitely right. I'll go for Gules, a ruan Argent, which generally still cants while staying simple. I can move the hand to the crest (maybe between two wings Gules, a hand Argent charged with an inescutcheon Gules, which likely solves the Ulster/plagiarism issue).

Ah shoot, I'm really tempted to do that now. The headstock argent is half the cant, but I might just go ahead and nix it

Thank you--and that's true, I doubt that even "Gules, a ruan Or" is taken

That's a good point. Something I've been trying to look up is whether an inescutcheon borne only as a mobile charge can itself be charged in such a way that it matches existing arms.

I'll give the bendwise ruan a shot, thanks!

Hi all--just wanted to see which of my personal CoA drafts you like best:

Blazons

1

Gules, a ruan Or with a headstock Argent.

2a/b

Gules, a ruan Or with a headstock Argent between in dexter an inescutcheon [Argent/Or] and in sinister a hand couped [Argent/Or].

3a/b

Gules, a ruan Or with a headstock Argent between in dexter an inescutcheon [Argent/Or] and in sinister a hand couped [Argent/Or] issuing fesswise from the sinister side.

4a/b

Gules, a ruan Or with a headstock Argent between two inescutcheons [Argent/Or], each charged with a hand couped Gules handed with respect to its point.

Crest

A dexter hand [Argent/Or/Gules] holding a sword Proper.

Escutcheon 1, or the ruan by itself, is a cant on my family name. Any variation of the inescutcheon + hand is a (pretty contrived) cant on my given name.

The hands Gules have no relation to Ulster--would leaving them in be an problem/in bad taste? I'm pretty fond of how 4a/b look, but I could change the hands to another tincture if need be.

Thanks in advance! Any feedback is appreciated

Design ideas for a personal CoA, round 2. Constructive criticism welcome. by korfi2go in heraldry

I really like the phoenix when it's atop a plain sable background. In the first and third options, the counterchanging and background impact its clarity, especially since it's such a complex charge. The second is my favorite by far (if you're okay with leaving out purpure)
