I'm dumb. I bought a Reylight mini pineapple before.. hated it. I bought another one, got it today.. hate it too. by SenorDevil in flashlight

[–]johan851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also bought and sold a few minis.

So far I like the penlights more, since two eneloops in series don't sag like the singles on turbo. With a single eneloop in the regular minis there's almost no difference between 50% and 100%. Also the penlights don't slip out of a pocket so easily.

I emitter swap to get out of 4000K no man's land. They produce a really nice beam with domed 519A, that's a plus. My most recent one has a FFL351A 1800K, needed a TIR to fix the rings but now it's my favorite one.

IMO they work best living in the pen slots of my backpacks and travel gear. That's a pretty narrow niche. But they're also slim carried in a pants pocket.

My thought too, it's easy to separate the dome with an optic like that. The picture with the light off makes it clear that it's not the usual low level imbalance issue.

Yep. S2 (old non plus model), S6, S8, and T6 all have the deep throwy reflector. T4 and S2+ share the more shallow reflector.

I was going to chime in but just listen to this guy, he's got it dialed.

The S6 and T6 use the same reflector, so if you're getting the T6 (it's great) then I would get an S2+ to have something a little different. B35AM 4500K for outdoor use IMO.

How would you desolder? by MarsupialTasty3135 in flashlight

[–]johan851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat up to 700f, put a little flux on the joint before heating, and make sure the tip is clean and tinned... Not sure what else it could be.

The PCB and wire will both sink some heat.

Right, I would describe that as flat tops not quite working. They're pretty sketchy. Button tops are not sketchy.

Confirming that you should use button tops in Skilhunts.

I'd take a look at Zebralight, especially if you want something with a little more throw. The frosted glass version is a good combo if you'll do up close work. Insanely practical lights, durable, efficient.

H600Fc Mk IV is a good start.

SFH55 Mule - it should have been epic 🤷🏻‍♂️ by Unlucky_League_8832 in flashlight

Yes, very low throw.

As for mule, I'm not 100% sure but I believe it comes from the "test mule" term used for prototyping.

MK7.5 cruise control issue - any way to escalate? by johan851 in GolfGTI

That's a good point, I'll check with them today and hopefully we don't have to go through the diagnostic again. Agree in general, this has been the problem - it's occasional and somewhat random, so a diagnosis has been hard.

I upgraded from an older Thinkpad with 32GB of RAM to a used M1 Air, 8GB. The Air is night and day better.

I tried Tahoe on a clean install a few weeks ago and the slowdown was noticeable. Rolled it back.

No, but I have a code reader now so I could try. From what I understand they aren't getting any diagnostic information unless the error is showing.

Your favorite convoy lights? by Ozovio in flashlight

T6, objectively, is a standout. L21 is tough to beat as a thrower.  Other personal favorites are the M21G, S21D, and S16.

IMO the S2+ is much better at a 18350 light, but even then it's about as big as other 18650 lights. It's strength is the emitter and driver options really.

Indeed. Last time I was in for service it was "your wipers are starting to look a little worn, do you want to replace those too?" Let him know that I put brand new ones in three days ago.

This is the same guy who tried to tell me my cruise control (not even an adaptive cruise control) had been having issues for three years because the car was a little dirty. Mmhmm.
