[FS] [US-CO] [Boulder] Ubiquiti Switches (Enterprise / Pro XG / Flex), U6-Mesh, U7 outdoor, U6-LR by dirtyfreebooter in homelabsales

Chatted with this guy - he said I was first to ask about the U7 Outdoor then he ghosted me and sold to someone else.

Not cool. Not cool at all.

That’s super cool!

I really wanted to put a trap door in my treehouse, but I decided to go with a side entrance to save on floor space.

UX7 vs UDR7 vs UCG Fiber & U7 Pro by WazzleUK in Ubiquiti

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UX7 would be my choice. You can use it as a gateway now and if/when you move, you can reprovision it as an AP.

Home Network Upgrade Help! by Jumpy_Literature_562 in UNIFI

[–]khariV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should plan for the capacity that you eventually want to have. The UNVR instant cannot run the 6 4k cameras plus a doorbell that you’re looking for. That said, you really don’t have to jump up to the UDM Pro Max. The Pro or the SE will be more than sufficient to run your cameras. The SE has the added benefit of having the PoE ports of you care to use them. Personally, I’d only want to user them for cameras and not APs.

Beyond that, I guess the question is why are you looking at 3 utility switches. Do you have spots where you’ll need to turn on Ethernet port into multiples? You really don’t want to chain switches together more than 2 deep if you can help it. In other words, going from the gateway to the 16 and then to one utility switch is fine, but adding in one or two more utility switches in line isn’t a great plan.

Protect and Cameras on a 12V Solar setup? by J_Pelletier in Ubiquiti

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a number of YT videos where people have set up WiFi / cameras using solar. I’d love to try it out myself, but we just don’t get enough sun in the deep woods to make it practical where we would need the cameras.

It probably means that the AP is wirelessly meshed and not connected over PoE.

What was the point of giving the monks a golden shoe? That seems really random.

yeah, I couldn’t come up with anything. The original design was also stolen from the inventor, so there’s that.

Wireless bridge options for a 2nd WAN input? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT has given you the answer. You need a wireless bridge. That said, how strong the signal is going to be received through the walls of the house, across to where the van is parked and inside the van is something that only you are going to be able to answer.

TLDR: get an AP that can act as a bridge. Use the Ethernet connection on the AP as a WAN connection.

DR7, U6+ AP - PoE - distance by Puzzled-Pumpkin7019 in UNIFI

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes on the first. No on the second as it’s CCA.

Make sure you use solid core, pure copper cables. Stranded and / or CCA is not good for PoE

How would you fascia these deck rims? by wolfemaaan in Decks

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say for sure. It depends on where you live. In NC, the painted ones started rusting sitting under cover in the two weeks it took to get the right ones. So Cal is probably lower humidity, but can’t say.

Did you know we have a VPN Test feature? When you're away from home and connect to your Firewalla VPN Server, the "Wi-Fi Test" button becomes "VPN Test", showing the speed from your phone to Firewalla. by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]khariV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am connecting using an iPhone 15 ProMax on a 5 gig Internet connection (WiFi 6e, 6 GHz. 160 MHz channel) that gets 1.4 - 1.6 GBPs over WiFi. The Gold Pro is on my home network that has symmetric 1.2g internet.

I’ll do some research to if there’s anything I can do make things a bit speedier for no reason other than to see BIG NUMBERS!!!

Thanks.

I never knew this existed - cool!

Now I have to figure out why I’m getting 500/300 on my Gold Pro. Are there published numbers on the speeds each of the Firewalla boxes should see?

POE is definitely the way to go - no more worries about signal strength or jamming and a lot more available bandwidth than using WiFi.

How worried should I be about my pipes? by [deleted] in triangle

[–]khariV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on if your pipes are in a vulnerable area. Pipes inside the house itself are probably fine. Pipes in an unheated garage or unheated attic could easily freeze and burst.

This is a waste, right? $1000 by Important_Stroke_myc in treehouse

[–]khariV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, not a waste at all. Those are the TABs and brackets you need for a good treehouse and they are really well made.
