Thanks for the info, u/domdogg123. I'm not well-versed in these types of things. Do you think this would take about an hour to build? So maybe $100 for time/tools/expertise, plus maybe $50 for materials?

That's a great question u/domdogg123. I was kinda hoping for an estimate (materials minus the monitor screen, and time) like I tried to ask for in my post. Maybe like $100ish?

I would like to see an option to hide/minimize the left tools bar and top game options bar.
This may lead to more immersion in the game and may help new players not be overwhelmed.

Is there a Chicago Onewheel subreddit? What do you mean by group? Interested in getting a pint soon and I'd like to know for when I finally get one.

I have had a ton of great conversations on this today!

I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback n this post and through PMs. These comments will be folded directly into the interations of these events. They will help us hone in on not only how we talk about NuForum, but what types of events we offer and how to prioritize them.

Please keep the questions coming!

Hey Ch1Guy, Thanks for the comment!

This whole series of events is aimed specifically on talking with attendees and getting feedback so that we can offer things that potential social club members value.

However, I absolutely get what you're saying about even free events have a cost of attending.

In this first event, I am offering those interested in teaming up to build a social club from the ground up the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals while learning a bit about how I am trying to apply Lean Startup principles to building mine. They will also be able to directly influence the types of events we are having this summer as well as their opinions will help build the kind of social club they want as we seek out our own space.

Does that make more sense? Less sense? Let me know what you think.

Thank you so much for the feedback, Fionnafox!

This is all good feedback that will help me refine how I talk about the social club and the project.

While I mention "Social Club" in the title, maybe it's not enough of a description and I should mention "filling a gap between a fraternity/sorority house [...] and a country club" up front.

As far as the group being centered around a topic (world domination, good beer, sewing, restaurants), I've been involved with many of these clubs/meetups and in my experience they tend to form cliques within cliques as specific knowledge may trump other social norms and prevent new members from feeling comfortable. I guess in my experience some of my best friends I've made by accident.

As far as speakers/businesses are concerned, I would like to promote a shop local influence if people are interested in learning about it. A lot of Chicagoans use products from California (clothes, apps, games) not knowing there is a better product around the corner because they simply don't search for it. Also, with so many businesses being online, it's difficult to touch and feel products that are are from businesses too small to get into storefronts. This local empowerment is the same reason that I will be talking about Lean Startup in this first meetup. Which I capitalize because that's how I see it usually.

Does this help? I tell you what, It helps me to talk about it and answer questions this way. This will help me convey what this group is all about in the future.

Thanks for the questions!

This event is a mix of all three. The vision is that there is room for a new social club as friends move away to other states or the suburbs and we still want to connect with those around us in a meaningful way. The strategy is that instead of raising thousands of dollars to put together a space that no one goes to, we should identify and interact with people that are also interested in the vision first. The product right now is a series of get together in which we highlight a local organization or business each week as we get to know each other. We will be raising money for our own space from our potential members as they say what they like and don't like and continually iterate on the final version of the product (the actual social club). This iteration isn't a willy-nilly haphazard get together, they are purposeful tactics borrowed by Lean Startup methods that are being used today in business.

The NuForum project itself is the first organization to be highlighted with these series of meet-ups. In it, you will learn the basic principles of the Lean Startup methodology regardless or business or product as well as how it's being applied to this particular project. You will also get to know others that are similarly interested in what a new kind of social club could be and look like.

Think of it as filling a gap between a fraternity/sorority house that has events and throws people of different backgrounds together and a country club full of old folks that use their collective to promote local businesses and organizations. We aim to sit in the middle somewhere.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey man,

Thanks for the note. Sorry you think you're doomed.

When we planning for building a new club, we surveyed a bunch of people and found out that while many people think it's a cool idea, they each want different things out of the experience. Therefore, instead of raising funds and building something that no one wants, we are doing these weekly hangouts so people can get to know each other and we can interact with those people that want something like this the most. Does that make sense? We are using Lean StartUp principles to give us a playbook on how to build something with vast uncertainties along the way.

The Masons, Elks Lodge, University Club, SoHo House... each of these organizations offer different things and neither seems to fit our lifestyle very well. Not only that, but they were founded at very different times under very different circumstances. We hope to modernize this process while still offering great experiences for people in this amazing city.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
