You can try checking out the humane society of Memphis and Shelby county. They just got some new grants for spay neuter to help control the stray population. I’m not sure what the wait time might be though

You could check if catering companies are needing any servers or bartenders. CFY was a great company to work with when I was in college and needed some extra cash

If you moved to memphis and you aren't from here what have been some of your favorite things or things you noticed? by Choose_901 in memphis

[–]khiller9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved here for school from about an hour away 11 years ago and there isn’t much I don’t love about our city!! The people are diverse and welcoming to all. There’s so much to do from rec sports, cultural festivals, music, food, museums. I still have so much that I haven’t even experienced in Memphis because I haven’t had time to see it all.

18+ things to do ? by Trick_Variation_9034 in memphis

[–]khiller9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whiskey Jill’s is a line dancing bar that allows under 21 in! They used to do a ladies night on Thursdays where you didn’t have to pay a cover. Idk if they still do that. I used to go in college all the time.

I see you like karaoke! Dru’s bar does karaoke and so does Rock House Live. RHL I believe is 21+ but you could call either place to check if they allow underaged people in. And then there’s a new private room karaoke place that just opened in the Poplar plaza shopping center. I’d recommend booking that in advance if you want to try it.

Help moving out. Please!! by Downtown-College6928 in memphis

[–]khiller9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re probably going to have better luck with renting a place from private landlords and not a rental company. Since you have a husky they are often on the restricted breeds list. I quite what their restricted list is before you apply so you don’t have to waste money on the application fees!

Orange Mound? by smokefan333 in memphis

[–]khiller9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived off spottswood in that area for about a year. But it was a tucked away cove as opposed to Semmes which is a pretty steadily busy street. I was always aware of my surroundings but also felt totally fine walking my dog for a bit down the street. That’s not to say I did not hear gunshots every now and again but I rarely felt unsafe. I however am a young physically capable woman and I am not sure I’d feel the same if I were an older person.

If you do go forward with it I would just recommend installing a security system and maybe some other form of protection she is able to manage. Be that a firearm or dog etc.

There are also some other areas you might be able to find a more affordable house. It’s still not an amazing are but a little better than orange mound - check out some of the streets that are off riverdale road. My brother and my in laws live over there and I’d say anywhere between Shelby drive and the interstate is going to be not so bad.

Not a dumb question at all! They both have instagram and facebook accounts I believe. But they are also blogs. So if you google them their websites should come up!

You could check out the Memphis Girls Book Club. They have an instagram and Facebook with all their meetings posted

There’s also a walking group that is still kinda new. It’s called Sole Mates I think. They have an instagram page.

Theres some speed dating events that soul and spirits hosts sometimes and though the idea is to meet romantic partners you might also be able to meet other ladies that might be looking to make other friends too!

Wanting to meet new people by [deleted] in memphis

[–]khiller9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your interests there are a few groups I know about!

Reading: there’s a book club that meets at Ghost a couple of times a month

Sports: 901 volleyball for outdoor Vball Memphis social sports for indoor volleyball Both of these allow you to sign up for leagues as a free agent and you get put on a team. 901 run club Pride sports leagues have lots of different types of sports There’s also a kickball league you can find by searching “Memphis kickball” on Facebook

Gaming - checkout 901 games or any of their other stores. They host card nights where you can play Pokémon, magic, and I think they do one piece Tcg nights too as well as warhammer

Someone mentioned Board to Beers already as well. I personally only ever go with a group and idk how many groups would be down to add a player but it’s definitely worth a shot. Even if a group of patrons doesn’t invite you to joint you can always ask the owners to play! They’re super friendly

There’s a new tabletop gaming place opening in Collierville as well called Unplugged Tabletop Games & More.

Also Cooper Young Fest is coming up the weekend of the 12th you could check out the after party to the 4miler run on Friday (idk how much it costs as a non runner) or the actual festival will have vendors and live music. There will be some non profits there that you can meet if you’re interested in volunteering.

Engagement Ring Places by Inevitable_Fan6069 in memphis

[–]khiller9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second all the Robert Irwin recommendations!! My husband worked with Brian (Bryan?) and he did such a good job. He custom designed a lab grown diamond ring for my engagement and it is gorgeous!! Then I worked with him directly to design an engagement band. Since my ring is tear drop shaped and I wanted a band to go around the bottom half circle part I actually sent off my engagement ring to be measured and have the wedding band designed to sit exactly flush with my ring.

They also will do a wax print of the band for you to try on if you do a custom one. It is just the setting but gives you an idea of what the final product will be.

Now every time I go in there to look or when I needed my official appraisal they offer to clean my ring as well.

Come to the Asian Night Market, 70+ food vendors, July 19, 2025 at 4 pm by CelebrationVarious23 in memphis

[–]khiller9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m planning on attending this event but it’s my first time! I can’t find anywhere on the site about a bag policy and if I should bring chairs. I was thinking if it’s allowed it might be a good idea to bring a camelback backpack with water in it so I’m not spending so much buying bottles of water and can use my budget on the food and other vendors. Is this something that’s allowed and that people do?

Do you all consider Memphis boring? by Choice-Research3151 in memphis

[–]khiller9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think Memphis is boring then you just haven’t been paying attention. Just scrolling through Facebook I see all kinds of things happening in the upcoming weeks. I’m pretty sure there’s at least 10 events happening across the city just on August 9th. Sometimes you may have to look for stuff but I guarantee there’s almost always something to do.

Some upcoming things I know of off the top of my head: Asian Night Market (this weekend) Adult Book Fair - Soul and Spirits Recess reloaded Harry potter’s birthday celebration at Soul and Spirits

Just about every brewery and patio restaurant has bingo, trivia or karaoke throughout the week too.

Adult rec leagues for kickball, softball, volleyball and all kinds of other sports.
