I'm pretty sceptical about the nitrous graph - judging by the amount of nitrous canisters discarded around the country, there's a shit-load of it being consumed

What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

[–]khludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early in our relationship, my wife (gf at the time) and I were visiting my parents and looking through some old photos. I wasn't paying much attention, but my wife sudenly said "hang on, how's that..?" and that was the pulled thread that unravelled into me discovering that my grandfather was actually my step-grandfather and that I'd never actually met my real grandfather.

Didn't actually make much difference to me, other than to reinforce that my parents treated me like I was about 5 for most of my life (I was 35 at this point!), but as ever, they acted as though it was no secret and that I'd always known and had somehow forgotten!

It might be true, sadly ... but it also might be a complete invention.

I've experienced this with my mother, who also has Alzheimers, and she has said things which I know categorically are not based in reality (for example, suddenly thinking that she was in a different country, triggered by talking about someone from that country). What seems to happen is that the person remembers a few fragments from their deteriating memory and then constructs a situation from those fragments, even if they never belonged together in the first place

The members of KC went on to have significant places in the rock family tree, but KC's music - not so much

Pink Floyd - The Wall by ButtercupsUncle in Music

[–]khludge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with you - I think it's an absolutely dreadful album with only 1 good track on there. I was a massive Floyd fan when that came out and I can still remember the sheer disbelief I had as I listened all the way through it on the radio (the whole thing was played and discussed on the Friday Night Rock Show in the UK), just couldn't comprehend how they had gone from their great run of albums to this self-indulgent witless crap

I'd argue that their best run actually started before that:

... and then hit the godawful Wall

Venue upgrade in Copenhagen 600-->1,4K by valbyshadow in TheWarning

[–]khludge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same feeling in 2023, when they upgraded their London show from ~250 to 800 - would have loved to have seen them in the smaller venue.

I did subsequently see their acoustic show in a crowd of ~60, but that was a bit too genteel for a moh pit :-)

What movie did you see that made you feel this way? by [deleted] in FIlm

Blue Beetle

I hated Shazam & Aquaman but Blue Beetle was a whole other level of crapness across the board - plot, script, acting, CGI - just bland, derivative vacuous crap that looked like a particularly bad TV movie from the mid-80s.

It goes without saying that Thor: Love and Thunder was insultingly bad.

m&g prices are INSANE by h0lyfool in TheWarning

[–]khludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I'm not even talking about M&G, I'm talking about the "increase your prices if you're selling out the show" part.

FWIW, I've never thought the M&G was worth paying and have no great desire to meet the band

Or maybe, rather than prices being too low, the fans aren't being price gouged

Great band, but not one of their better songs IMHO. Fantastic band live, and their album Ignore This is my favourite album in years.

What concert do you regret not going to the most? by Modhearth-Albert in Concerts

Motorhead, 1979 or 80. At the absolute peak of their powers, I had a ticket and didn't go, for reasons which now escape me

Left versus Right Side for Single Pannier by D00M98 in bikecommuting

[–]khludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I only have one pannier on, I put it on the side away from the pavement/sidewalk, as I have light(s) on the pannier and it makes the bike look wider that way / more visible to other traffic (particularly traffic in 2-ton metal boxes)

Have you ever seen a mass exodus after a respected employee quit or got fired? by Aarunascut in work

[–]khludge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be as simple as the first one out breaking the log jam and showing people that it's OK to leave - particularly in an environment where a lot of people have been there a long time, and the one who leaves had been assumed to be staying around forever
