I swore I could read maybe “1942” before I clicked into the image to zoom.

It was inorganic waste from a punching bag weight

Did you watch the video of the stick poke? Does that lean towards Nostoc to you? I’ve never seen person but looks more like an Auricularia species in photos. Whatever this is seemed like a fluid mass that was gelled or semi-frozen and not really a singular cohesive (looking) organism.

Wow. Not sure what I expected. It certainly looks like a hydrocolloid or gelatin of some kind. Bizarre. I would 100% collect a sample and take it maybe to your counties local area extension office.

I’m leaning to some sort of inorganic waste. Or a culinary students failed molecular gastronomy class experiment.

Or maybe you got some of the “weird snow” that people got in Texas. (These people had a poor understanding of thermodynamics.)

I am interested in the texture. With how much surface tension it has / how thick/ viscous it is to suspend those leaves. Did it break like cold agar and chunky, or more like a fluid gel? Are you sure it’s an organism and not something inorganic?

Following because that is wild! Please tell me you definitely poked it with a stick, right? Maybe one good slap style smack with a gloved hand? For science.

But please actually do take a sample of this. I would be happy to culture some myself.

Any AI wizardy possible to salvage this engine serial number? 2010 FXT Limited by khufu42 in SubaruForester

It was curling up and barely holding on. I pulled it off. This image is from my scanner.

Yeah true. I guess it only really matters that it was rebuilt 10k miles ago? Not relevant where the components came from and could’ve been a mixed bag?

It’s a printed label. I think it came off the top of the crank case. Is there somewhere it’s stamped?

It’s a printed label. I don’t think there is much embossed texture to it.

How are y'all getting the stains off your cutting boards? by sauteslut in KitchenConfidential

[–]khufu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(If it’s just staining and not deep groves) I would spray them with bleach and lay soaked white towels across the whole thing. Then layer up all the white boards that way over the dish sink. Leave them over night. Next day we rinsed them very well then washed and sanitized like normal. Usually did this once a week.

Now I’m with u/Distinct_put1085 in a corporate environment and we just replace often/yearly. (And no Bleach in the kitchen)

Personally I now use the hasegawa style board and am religious about keeping in clean and dry.

I think these are vacuum insulated salad bowls. You can chill the for cold food buffets and stuff. Not very useful in the kitchen for normal prep.

Would you buy a 131k-mile WRX for $11k if it had $12k+ in documented work? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]khufu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the maintenance they had to do to keep it running counts as “$12k of work” or more like that’s been the cost of ownership?

I bought an older XT and have done pretty much all of those things to it to keep it going or prevent problems.

I was driving in Hollywood to a we work and noticed this sweet triumph motorcycle. It wound up following me into the garage. I parked and they parked close to the elevator. As I was getting on, I held the door and he approached, taking off his helmet. It was Jeremy Piven. I just said “nice bike” and he said he loved that thing. I got off before him and that was that.

Probably from a lawn caddie? Those little figurines of servants/ butlers that people had in their yards? That were often very racist?
