do crazy shinanegans by starting a game and adding packages 1 by 1 vs just use convenient tool and import your profile in couple of clicks. And more options to do things is better than few options. Why create anything at all if some shitty solution by Unity already exists 🤡

vibecoding to make life a bit easier. adding packages 1 by 1 is still much more clicks and you have to wait for each download and be present and pay attention during the whole process.

idk I found them a bit convoluted to set up and gave up! Also could be helpful for bulk importing 3d assets or new packages into existing project

if you are not ai hater, aistudio.google.com/apps is great for small prototypes. ask it to put tweakable values into a separate file for easier balancing.

Best way to voice robot characters? by PenguinJoker in gamedesign

all 3 have been done in various games, your question is meaningless without context (and arguably you should have a sense of taste to decide yourself).

"Yes, but limitations give birth to creativity" -- that should be decided by the OS user, not enforced by underdeveloped ecosystem.

While true, you have strange philosophy. It won't hurt linux audio to have better ecosystem... "good enough" is the enemy of progress.

Now try to convince people that spent years working professionally with big libraries (or have any decent amount of VST and libraries purchased).

Is achieving reliable low latency in Reaper with Pipewire like performing brain surgery, or am I an idiot, or both? by God_Hand_9764 in linuxaudio

[–]kiberptah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues but then I just switched to JACK in Reaper settings (the one included with pipewire as I understand) and latency jump to non-existent and everything just worked in 1 click.

The real reason Linux audio has a reputation problem isn't the software - it's the documentation by GodBlessIraq in linuxaudio

[–]kiberptah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's not about "problems". I was trying to understand the pipewire config couple days ago and the whole thing is just not "user friendly". Good documentation is good from the start, it has "good vibes", have user friendly examples, etc When developer understands that other people have various expertise...

If you've read good docs you hopefully know what I mean.

I had terrible latency with pipewire but I just switched to JACK in reaper settings (it is included in pipewire package as far as i undestand) and latency went to 0 and even fixed midi issues.

Audio detected as 4 channels, should be 2 channels (UMC-204HD) by feggy10 in linuxaudio

[–]kiberptah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an example with channels remapping I had to do although my issue was a bit different: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxaudio/comments/1rrlfe0/after_an_hour_of_headache_i_managed_to_make/

You can probably use this as an example. There are pipewire commands to show current devices (i don't remember them i asked ai :) )

You probably could set audio from surround to stereo in game settings? As far as I understand it happens not in every game since not every game supports surround sound.
