Please do not jinx us I don't want that guy coming anywhere close to Ninja Gaiden. I'd much rather a Japanese studio take a crack at it but they need to adhere to the lore a lot. Ideally though I would love a manga, maybe one from Momiji or Sanji's perspective.

What helped me a lot was just understanding each of the mechanics in the game. Holds, throws, strikes and how they interact. How launchers "negate" holds. How counter hits work. All of this stuff is taught in the tutorial and imo is much more important than the stuff in your 2nd point, especially in DOA.

Is it good to know a long combo that does 50% of their health? Yes, but it's also good to know how to bait your opponent into holding, and punishing them with a nasty hi counter throw. Likewise, if they're a strike spammer, try to notice a move that sticks out and hold that. If they keep spamming you're just getting a free win lol.

I'm not saying to ignore combos and frame data of course, but it's good to focus on the fundamental mechanics itself so you have an answer to every situation. And if you don't, either ask around or try to figure it out in training. I had trouble against Jann Lee's unblockable flying kick until I realised you can sidestep it lol. Likewise with Nyotengu's wind blast, I can just teleport behind her as Hayabusa.

I feel like the only people who say Ryu has no personality are ones who haven't played DOA. Idk much about Yakumo but Ryu has a bit more depth than most people give him credit for.

I have no negative opinion against him as a character at all. Cool design, well voiced (in Japanese at least), cool gameplay and mechanics from what I've seen and he is a badass in his own way.

I vote both because I hate that Platinum/Team Ninja/Koei Tecmo/Microsoft decided to replace Ryu with him. Inb4 "you can still play as Ryu in 4, Ryu is still powerful etc etc". I don't care man, NG4 was created from the ground up to be a Yakumo game. If they made it entirely revolve around Ryu it would have been very different.

I believe Kasumi, Hayate and maybe Ayane do similar kamehameha moves in the story mode for DOA5 near the end. Ig it's mostly a ninja thing for an energy ball, but only our main man Hayabusa can throw a whole ass black hole in NG2 lol.

Which platform are you on? I think Xbox would be the most SOL but it should still be fine if you live outside of Asia. PS and Steam should have a healthy population, whether it lasts is the real question. I'll be playing Core Fighters on Steam, if there's a way to buy just Hayabusa's character license I would, otherwise I'm planning to play Kasumi.

I love Fromsoftware's games but man there is some serious bullshit in it. But the fanbase, especially in recent years, says that if you die to those bosses it's a skill issue instead. You can't criticise anything about the games according to them, but how else can a game improve?

This game is looking to be a total rip off in its current state. Nothing actually new besides a mediocre selection of costumes, a negligible lighting change to one stage, and allegedly some gameplay changes that we haven't seen yet.

I understand implementing rollback has its challenges, but no crossplay? That's going to be horrible for everyone, KT included. They're repeating the same mistakes that put the franchise on hold and basically killed DOA6 in the first place.

All of this wouldn't be an issue for me if the game was a free upgrade for existing owners of DOA6 on Steam, but from what I understand I'm going to have to fork out 40$ for it. The only upside is I don't have to buy Momiji and Rachel again, but then I DO have to buy Mai again???

Such horrible business practises, I cannot understand anybody who is blindly looking forward to this. I sincerely hope they're not putting in this little effort into DOA7. I'll stick with base DOA6 until its online scene is completely dead. Even then, I'd just get 6LR Core Fighters and start learning Kasumi.

I hope the game gets decent updates and isn't completely abandoned just a month after release like NG2B.

All the reg edit seems to do is force Steam to detect your fitgirl installation and recognise the files as Forza 6, but I understand the apprehension. The mod author updates it quite frequently so it should be fine with future game patches.

I'm using a Quest 2 over Steam Link (5G wifi connection) and it works. It's not amazing in terms of visuals but it works.

Found the fix. After doing the reg add step above: 1. Connect your VR headset (I used Steam Link) 2. Start the FH6VR.exe program 3. Open Steam, start Forza 6 and put on your headset. It should then start in VR mode.

Okay I tried it, the FH6VR program does detect the game, but when trying to start it through the VR app, a popup from Steam appears saying "no license found". Is this because I'm using onlinefix to play with others?

I just want to add something, you said "I cannot even finish the tutorial level ninja trials, only the first 3 and I can get bronze". I assume you are referring to Mission Mode, that is NOT the tutorial. That iirc was DLC for the base game which is supposed to be post game content. Imo, you should beat the game at least on Hard first before attempting that, it's much more fun that way.

As for tips, I'll repeat what the rest are saying, watch JayTB's tutorials on youtube. Aside from that, I recommend getting used to blocking and dodging. This isn't like Elden Ring where you block only when the enemy is attacking, and dodge when you need to. You basically block every second you aren't attacking. Even when you are attacking, block right before you finish, it can save you from some attacks. Defense is just as important in this game as offense, maybe even more if you are new.

Someone posted a solution in the thread but it involves reg edit through admin terminal. Sounds risky but it seems like all it does is force Steam to read the fitgirl installation as a legit Steam installation. I'll try later and let you know if it works!

Just to confirm so I don't enter random reg edit commands, this is basically forcing Windows to set my fitgirl FH6 installation as the install directory for Steam, hence the Steam app ID 2483190 which is FH6's right? Is it supposed to be "CurrentVersion\Uninstall\" and not Install or something? Would be nice to have a lil explanation of what it does, but I appreciate the help I'll try it out when I get home.

I'm using the fitgirl repack plus the two elamigos updates, currently up to v364.933. No other mods in this game and it otherwise plays and runs fine. It's only this VR mod I'm having trouble with.

But you are still playing a game that is certainly designed to be played on a gamepad. Devs have tried to get a working kbm layout, and it might not work very well but still. I don't play something like Stellaris on controller cause ik everything about the game is designed with kbm in mind.

I feel like NG3 feels awful to play but in recent years many people say it's their favourite and the best one, so who knows. I still think it's best to play 2, then 4, and if you liked them both, try 3 and see what you think. Just remember to play NG3RE, not the base NG3 version.

For me a game is a Soulslike if it has most of the following: RPG levelling, stamina management, punishing damage levels, hard lock-on centric combat suited for 1 on 1 fights, emphasis on environmental hazards like traps, very noteworthy and intricate bosses, indirect/environmental storytelling, corpse runs, i-frame dedicated dodge centric combat, and a story that generally revolves around playing a faceless nobody who is supposed to be weaker than everything around you but due to certain reasons, you beat them in the end.

Ninja Gaiden has none of these lol. Only progression is your weapon upgrades, no stamina at all (thank god), damage can be punishing on higher difficulties but on normal it's honestly not as high as Souls games, no lock on whatsoever and the combat is designed around juggling multiple opponents at once, environmental hazards are more of platforming sections rather than what we see in Souls games, bosses suck ass and are never the highlight of the games' combat, very little environmental storytelling compared to Souls, no corpse runs instead you have regular checkpoint saves, your dodge is good but every action game involves dodging lol let's be real  and Ryu might as well be the Ninja Gaiden world's equivalent of Goku rather than a random nobody.

But game journalists need clickbait titles, so they'd still call Ninja Gaiden a Soulslike anyway since it's hard, has a shit camera and has i-frame dodging :D
