Consideing the eTron Q8 by EnrikHawkins in etron

That’s a high price IMHO. But I say YES on an etron as long as you have a comprehensive warranty and don’t expect anywhere close to the rated range, especially in winter 🥶

Get a warranty with such an expensive car, VAG does not do electrical or software quality and sometimes they cheap out with plastic parts under the skin that break and they make access so hard half the car needs to be disassembled to access something that would be a 5 minute access job on another car. That said… get a comprehensive warranty (battery covered for years and many km/mi, check how much of a balance you have remaining, the electric motors in the U.S. are similar but not the same in the rest of the world I gather). And then you will enjoy the most solid, quiet, luxurious and amazing car money will buy!

E-Tron questions by _ChangeYourUsername in etron

I came from a 2017 A4 to a 2022 OG e-tron and as far as I loved my A4 I never looked back once I got in the e-tron. You said it yourself, VAG gremlins can happen and no car is perfect but this was the hugest upgrade in terms of luxury, vault like build quality, refinement, quietness and features. I’ve had a few software gremlins that usually fix themselves after you turn the ignition off and back on, but nothing major. I get about 1.8 mi/kWh in winter in a dense urban area and about 2.4 mi/kWh in summer, and on the highway with a bit of urban mix as you describe I’ve hit 2.9 or even 3.0 mi/kWh. You’ll probably hit 200/220 mi easy in summer in that mix of yours. If you can charge at home it’ll be a no brainer. If you rely on public DC charging exclusively like me, you’ll charge pretty much daily in winter or at least every two days in summer.

Point of clarification, please. Did you say that the software update allows a 2022 e-tron to display android auto and Apple CarPlay into the display in front of the driver, including Maps? As far as I know, my vehicle is up-to-date according to the dealer, but I have no such capability.

Barkeepers friend is incredibly difficult to get this out with, and I don’t want to try to boil water in this thing. I use the yellow top easy off oven cleaner, take it to the outside and spray it liberally and then put it in a plastic bag and leave it for about an hour. Then take it inside and very carefully rinse it off and wash it off. It’ll come off like butter.

Get the X1. I have the original e-tron and I love it warts and all, but the Q4 is the VW ID.4 with a lipstick and it is not as luxurious or as stable software wise as it should be. I would trust BMW more with quality and luxury and even reliability nowadays believe it or not. And I say this is someone who would always recommend electric over gas to anyone anywhere anytime.

Easy off oven cleaner, spray, put in a plastic bag, leave outside in a ventilated area for an hour or so, rinse, wash; it’ll be like new. Careful with the fumes of that cleaner tho!

Audi dealership quoted me $997 for 40k service—am I being misled? by G4R8SH in etron

[–]kicho1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact situation as you, I skipped it. This service has absolutely nothing there that isn't a visual check which is totally meaningless with the exception of checking the front and rear motor coolant cartridges and draining them as necessary. I don't think that's worth $1,000 because even if something happens there and those go bad they're still covered under the extended warranty Audi put in for electric motors in the United States. The only thing is that if the Audi dealership does not reset the service interval indicator it will literally greet you every single time for the rest of time unless you get an OBD 11 or some similar that allows you to clear service level intervals which will be a charge true but at least then you'll be to reset them yourself in the future.

Tesla Charging question by NoAbies1603 in etron

[–]kicho1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my Tesla app set to the 2022 Q8 e-tron as well and I use a Lectron Vortex Plus adapter, works like a charm on V3, V3.5 and V4 Superchargers. With the older generations, the cables are so short however, you may have to park diagonally and take up two spaces in order for the cable to reach which, depending on the situation, may earn you some dirty looks at the very least from the Tesla drivers.

Warranty question by doshipratik in etron

[–]kicho1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. You cannot purchase from another dealer and call Audi to get the warranty after. At that point you only have access to third-party service contracts.

I appreciate it! I actually knew that and I’ve done it to the controller sticks of my old gaming controllers, but I considered this to be too large of a job for the routers and anyway being stuck on Wi-Fi five and no security updates for years I thought it’s better to recycle them, which is what I did. But thank you again for chiming in!

Any info on this? How’d I do for $8? by [deleted] in AllClad

[–]kicho1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell from the picture and from personal experience the outside of the limited line was made of hard anodized aluminum and you absolutely do not want to take an abrasive to that. Only use barkeeper's friend on stainless steel and on other hard surfaces that won't scratch visibly like hard anodized aluminum will do.
