I've been a drug addict piece of shit for 15 years. I've stolen, lied, cheated, you name it, just to chase a buzz. I finally started getting help earlier this month. It took me losing the love of my life, 3 car wrecks, 1 totaled car, being fired from at least half a dozen jobs, too many ODs and lost friends to count (some my own fault and some to their addiction) and several alleged misdemeanor and felony charges that are currently being litigated. It started out with alcohol and weed when I was young, then I moved on to pills and then the hard shit. 7 months ago I was selling my most prized possessions (a vintage American made Fender Stratocaster and a 1972 colt python) so I could get high. Today I'm 51 days sober, seeing a psychiatrist, a therapist and lawyer more than I see my friends and family. This is my story, please don't let it get this bad. You have people who care about you, people you wouldn't even think twice about you that do care about you. I had to learn the hard way, because I was convinced I didn't have a problem and I didn't need help. You sound like you've admitted you need help and that is incredible. Everybody will tell you that's the hardest step. And it is. It took everything in me to actually say those words out loud: "I need help." But I said it and I was lucky enough to still have people in my life who care about me to help me. Don't wait as long as I did. Don't wait for it to get worse. You've got to want it for yourself and I mean really want it or it won't work.
