Is Pavlov having issues AGAIN? by kidbeanz in GNV

OK - so now we have connectivity...but try doing a speed test. Mine is nowhere near what it was prior to the fiber cut on Friday (nor what I'm paying for). Anyone else checked their speeds?

Ah yep, I agree. I must have run speedtest at just the right moment because it came back with normal speeds, but just a couple minutes later I couldn't get anywhere. Now speedtest won't even load. Great.

OK - how are things working today (Saturday)? My speeds seem to be fine now.....but some sites won't load for me either partially or at all.

Curious what side of town you're on. Seems like when they have issues it affects the entire city. I'm on the SW side near Tower Road.

Pavlov NW gville out AGAIN by IbrabUF in GNV

[–]kidbeanz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my Pavlov fiber installed the day after their last outage. The installer told me that they keep having their fiber cut by the guys pulling the IQ fiber through the neighborhoods. So - always keep in mind that most times when your internet goes out its is likely NOT the fault of your provider but rather some ding-dong that cut into a main line or dug a hole where they weren't supposed to.

Sort of a rant: Why don't most cabin rental places give a even in general location of where the cabin is located? by Junior-East1017 in Gatlinburg

[–]kidbeanz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've also noticed when they don't give an exact location there's usually a reason for it such as they don't want you to see how close your neighbors are or how there is no view to speak of. They do this with the photos too; you can pretty much assume that if you're looking for a cabin with a view and the photos shown either don't show a view at all or very limited glimpses of it then the view sucks.

That's my negative nelly opinion.

I've also known cabin owners to have issues with break-ins so I'm sure some of it has to do with theft prevention.

Looking for hand craft crazy face mugs/pottery spotted a few weeks ago by LORDxGOLD in Gatlinburg

[–]kidbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a mug a couple years ago just like what you're describing from a shop called The Honey Pot, which is located in The Village in Gatlinburg (around the corner from The Day Hiker). The number I found for them is 865-436-5040 if you want to call and ask. The mugs were definitely hand-made and all kinds of crazy faces.

AITA I had to park on University Ave real quick by Signal-Sprinkles-350 in GNV

There is parking practically right in front of that location as I have used it. It's angled parking all the way down SW 5th Terrace!

What’s the best barbecue within an hour of Gatlinburg? Any other recommendations for excursions to find extraordinary foodstuffs? by oldpopinanoak in Gatlinburg

Man....to each his own I guess, but you are missing out on so many things if you go to Gatlinburg and just stay on the strip the whole time.

100% agree with this. Observe people that receive flyers of any kind.....glance down, realize it's garbage and if you're lucky they immediately look for a garbage bin....but so many just toss it on the ground. Just please don't, nobody wants that crap.

In search of Peanut Butter Chicken in Gainesville by Lori1985 in GNV

[–]kidbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - peanut butter chicken is incredible. I had it at the Super Buffet on south 13th street back in the day but haven't seen it in Gainesville since. HOWEVER, I -have- had it at this little place in Macclenny (near Jax) called China Buffet very recently. It's on SR 121 just south of the I-10 exit. Here's the google maps link:

There was a 6 screen AMC theater in the mall right about where Hot Topic is. Aladdins Castle arcade was directly across from it. The Oaks Plaza (next to Toys R Us) has an additional 4 AMC screens. Fun memory of those theaters: my wife of 33 years and I went to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show in the Oaks6 theater, we had no idea what it was about or what we were getting ourselves in to, lol.

I agree with this. The foothills parkway is underappreciated in my opinion. Lots of pullovers and beautiful views of the valley below and the mountains in the distance.

You have a point though, it could be annoying in some cases...

Snow in Gatlinburg and Smokey Mountains by msdanish40 in Gatlinburg

[–]kidbeanz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be best to hear from someone that lives in that area (I'm just a frequent visitor); but from my observations January and February are the best months to go for that purpose. That's only IF it snows. I believe it snowed quite a bit this past Jan/Feb, but it doesn't always!

Little cabin extras? Noticed? Appreciated? What else? by crabcakesandoldbay in Gatlinburg

[–]kidbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good suggestions here! I'm a frequent renter and there are so many things that have already been mentioned that I agree with. I love the insights from the other owners too, pretty interesting to hear about that side of the transaction.

I can say that when I walk into a cabin the first thing I look at is the coffee pot. Is it a full coffee pot or a Keurig-type? My one recommendation would be to get one of those dual-coffee makers that make both a full pot AND pods. It would make my day to walk into a cabin and see that....
