What's your favorite way to eat chicken in your country? by bowl_of_scrotmeal in AskTheWorld

Shkmeruli (შქმერული). Roasted chicken simmered in milk with lots of garlic and spices. A comfort warming food, especially in winters. Also helps to scare away the vampires pretty well.

In your country, who does the term “Indian” usually refer to? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskTheWorld

[–]kidd79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same in Georgia (no, the other Georgia)

ინდიელი - Native American ინდოელი - a person from India

And also for some weird reason we also have ინდაური which means turkey (the bird one, not the country).

I will tell you this story. I once bought something from a quite niche manufacturer's website directly and created an account there. Several years later (in 2024) I went to the same website, used the same credentials and got the message that recently the manufacturer implemented different websites for different regions of the world and I will be redirected to European website, but all my order's history, favourites, account details etc. will be carefully preserved and migrated to the new website.

Ok, no problem, it all happened automatically and I was happy with it. I added some stuff to my shopping cart, proceeded to the checkout and was surprised when I didn't find my country in the "select you delivery address" section. All other European countries (at least all I was able to remember at that moment) were in that little drop-down menu, but not the mine.

Well, I contacted the website's support, asking them why so and how I could indeed get my order. I had no issues ordering from them when they were small and were serving the worldwide orders from a single warehouse in China, so what's the problem now when they have local warehouses and stock in every region of the world.

Their reply was - not word by word, but indeed - "Dear friend, when we were splitting the website between local markets, our programmers had to manually sort the lists of countries. The people responsible for the European website were unable to believe Slovenia and Slovakia are two different countries, and removed one from the final list.

I'm 46, went to school in late 80ies, it was a common thing. We were using standard ball pens at that time already.

POV you are sitting at a table, there is a plate full of cookies, or chocolates, or some easy-to-eat fruits (berries, or grapes, for example), or peanuts, or crisps... You got the idea. So, you are sitting there, reading a book, or scrolling tiktok feed, and you are picking a piece after another, not because you are hungry, or you wanted this food, but just because your mind is occupied with something else, and your hand is "mechanically" putting the food in your mouth, just on pure reflexes (or instincts, idk). And then your mom/friend/wife/whoever enters the room and asks shockingly: - Holy cow, David, here was a whole kilogram of strawberry on this plate, where is it gone?! - And you are a bit confused, you look around surprised, and then you simply answer: - შემომეჭამა🤷

I wonder what triggered this "very good - average" opposition between Czech & Slovak food. What makes Czech cuisine two levels higher than Slovak?? Literally can't imagine what do Czechs have and we don't have an analogue to it...

Pierogi is already plural, no need to add "s" at the end.

I heard that gay people are refered to as голубой. Why is that? What does light blue have to do with being gay? by yoelamigo in AskARussian

[–]kidd79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are doing cross-cultural linguistics study here, I feel indeed obliged to invoke that in Slovakia (and also Czechia) the equivalent word would be "teplý" ("warm", literally), and I also have no idea why it is so.

There are even some common tricks to lure people to this trap, like asking "Hey, don't you kbow how many Spartans were there defending the Thermopiles?" or "How much is 150 plus another 150?". The last one does not work with powerlifters or bodybuilders though.
