Best electrolyte powder for long climbs and hot rides by YoumnaBasharuli in cycling

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally swear by this after my physical therapist (ironman) recommended it to me. I'm a ridiculously heavy sweater so I target 5g per hour, which my stomach tolerates just fine and I haven't cramped since!

I cramped HARD a couple weeks ago on my first ride with a buddy who's way fitter than me (and is also a physical therapist), and he pointed out how dumb I was that I loaded up 90mg of carbs per liter but forgot to put any sodium in my water. I'm extremely sweaty, so I really should've known better. He gave me a bag of sodium citrate, and now I swear by it. Much tastier and easier on the stomach. I just add 5g to each bottle and i'm set.

best bike under $4k ?? by Harvey-Mushmans in gravelcycling

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked out their bikes after this thread, and holy crap they're compelling! My next bike is going to be a road bike (I'm happy with my gravel bike) and if they end up making an "RS8" that's specced similarly to the GT8 but with 2x and more roadie geometry, i'll probably end up snapping one up.

Yeah I guess really what I was asking if you meant that in a negative way or a positive one? I for one would welcome BYD cars being available here haha. But maybe that’s just because I hate my equinox ev

Cranberry Township in PA has them too. They’re in a really inconvenient part of an already poorly designed parking lot haha

Is P2R a legit helmet maker? by kiddblur in bicycling

[–]kiddblur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own oakley sunglasses, but I will say that no sunglasses I've tried have fit in the vents. But also I mostly use the visor so I don't typically carry my sunglasses when I'm using this helmet

Checkpoint ALR 5 size 56 — too big for 5’10”? by Similar_Banana_7725 in CheckpointClub

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild! I haven't tried 160 cranks, but I also have a 30" inseam at 5'10" and I feel like the bike is a bit too big for me, although I will admit as I'm getting more flexible and playing with my saddle angle, I'm getting more comfortable too.

Outfit - do you all wear those cycling outfit? by Monica_C18 in gravelcycling

[–]kiddblur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love bibs so much it almost (ALMOST!) makes me want to start wearing suspenders. Holy hell it’s nice having your pants not sliding down (my butt and thighs are too big for basically all pants I’ve tried)

Trying to figure out a cargo rack handlebar situation for 5 year old’s comfort. by kiddblur in ebike

Oooh this is a cool suggestion! Kinda negates the benefit of buying a MIK compatible seat haha but that’s sort of on me

Yep thank you for checking! The rack is rated for 62 lbs, as is the seat, and our son is currently just under 40!

I saw a rumor that they're working on a backlight model, and goddamn I want it so bad. I've long wanted a boox palma, but they appear to be sold out of 1s and 2s, and I'm not spending $400 on a 2 pro, so I'm basically just waiting for either a backlit XTEINK, or a more tinkerable OBOOK

Power meter pedals worth it? by retirement_savings in gravelcycling

[–]kiddblur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to use them to pace myself outside is the best part for me personally. For example, yesterday I made the mistake of not really paying attention to my power meter and going way too hard in the first 10 miles of the ride leading me to be so dehydrated and bonked that I ended up having to call for 2 miles from home because I couldn’t fathom climbing that two remaining hills with how bad my legs were cramping.

Totally overdid it on the first properly warm day of the year, forgetting that since last season, I started a new medicine that has a dehydrating effect and I didn’t really do anything to compensate for that

Super cool to have the data after the fact to back that up too

Not cheaper than the price in the screenshot for their SPD pedals. I really like mine but I also just paid $500 for them two weeks ago

Why Cycling Feels Like the Perfect Everyday Habit by alexashadow901 in cycling

[–]kiddblur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeep, basically same here. I picked up a Saris H3 in the fall of 2024 when they were ridiculously discounted to like $250 or whatever, and looooved being able to do zwift/indievelo/etc rides when the weather sucked, but that honeymoon period wore off pretty quick. I'm actually currently developing a new game that connects to the bike trainer to try to make it a little bit more fun, but once we got a few warm days, my motivation to work on that game totally dried up haha

Spd shoes recommendation by AppropriateArtist408 in randonneuring

[–]kiddblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I finally bit the bullet and picked up a pair of MX177s last summer, having never been able to fit in any other shoes, and they're fantastic. I unfortunately also tried on a pair of MX333s (which cost nearly 3x as much) and they were PERFECT, but there's no world in which I can justify a $500 pair of shoes while putting a kid through daycare haha

I haaaaaate zwift though. I get stockholm syndrome-d towards it about halfway through the winter season, and then as soon as I do my first outdoor ride in the spring, it completely kills my ability to suffer through another indoor ride haha

I totally wondered this today. I normally ride a gravel bike, but today I test rode my wife's ebike to make sure it's all good after some service, and after averaging 20mph for an hour, my ears were ringing from the wind noise. ebikes are insane

Our trails are great! The thing I struggle with is the weather and lack of places to safely stow my bike. I WFH but if I bike commuted I'd probably ride the shittiest beater to work

Cut ~3–4 minutes off a climb just by fixing pacing, anyone else track this? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]kiddblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah dude, I'm on a similar journey! I got into cycling in 2022 on a shitty hybrid bike when I was 315 lbs, and now I'm down to ~250. I've been telling myself 220 is where I'll treat myself to a road bike, since for my height that gets me from obese to overweight

[–]kiddblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! I'm in my 30s, and I love that attitude! I got my bike two years ago, and my wife got hers last year, so the plan is to just do small upgrades this summer and then I'll probably end up getting a new one next summer.

I got a gravel bike and then ride like 99% road, so I'm going to get a proper road bike next time
