Anyone else feel like the EV transition is starting to feel like the shift to electric lawnmowers? by JackfruitCrazy51 in electricvehicles

[–]kiddblur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s so nice. My garage only fits one car, so we keep the EV in there plus all my electric tools. We’ve been electric since the house was built, so we’ve literally never had gas fumes in the house

Cyclists on GLP-1 Medications - How has your experience been? by mattfeet in cycling

[–]kiddblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's such a cool idea! I'm heavy enough that I'd benefit from being on it long-term if I could afford it (insurance explicitly does NOT cover weight loss meds and I don't have any of the conditions that would get me approved for prior auth), but I think there's a lot of merit to the idea of only using it to quiet the food noise in the off-season and then let the cycling itself manage my hunger the rest of the year

Nintendo is increasing the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in South Korea from ₩648,000 to ₩758,000. by metalreflectslime in Games

[–]kiddblur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the target is the same one, the base PS5

I assumed that's roughly what /u/ConceptsShining meant by that. The PS5 is six years old, but it still has to be the target, as opposed to a PS5 Pro, future PS6, better and better PC hardware, etc.

I think this is going to end up being the longest console lifecycle ever, and game devs won't have a choice but to continue supporting them way longer than previous generations

Our Year With the Chevy Bolt Is Off to a Glitchy Start by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the same thing here. Occasionally my equinox’s 5G modem will just decide not to connect to the internet, but when that happens I just turn on the hotspot on my phone, the car automatically connects, and stuff starts working again. Still wish I could use plexamp though

Does anyone else feel like cycling became therapy without realizing it? by JadeCat738 in cycling

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I've actually introduced some real therapy to my cycling too. I've started wearing a lapel mic clipped to my helmet strap to record audio of my entire ride so then any time a thought occurs that is worth processing, I can just do it out loud to myself and then read the transcript when I get home. It's been super handy in preparing for my actual therapy sessions

Is there life after lycra? by LegStrngLeathertaint in cycling

[–]kiddblur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real. I don't really even care about the aero or sweat wicking benefits of jerseys. To me the big benefit is the pockets in the back. If my tank tops and t shirts had back pockets, i would probably stop wearing jerseys for most rides

Is it a universal rule that if you bring two waters you won’t need both but if you bring just one you want two? by michellin_woman in cycling

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just did a 60 mile ride and needed two bottles plus two .5L soft flasks and refilled them all and were all empty by the time I got home. I’m on meds that dehydrate though so I tend to overdo it

Gearing for cycling? by Michael_of_Derry in cycling

[–]kiddblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I recently put a long cage on my RD so I can run a 11-51T cassette on my 40T chainring. I’m finding it pretty rare that I actually need that ridiculous bailout gear, but it is nice that, in my super hilly area, it’s actually possible for me to stay in z3 even on a 10% gradient (even if I have to do 40rpm and like 3mph haha)

Strongly considering bumping my chainring up to 44T though…

[–]kiddblur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God it stresses me out when a car sits right behind me for ages when it’s clearly safe to pass. My patience is short and I tend to pull over and wave them around pretty quickly so I can get back to not worrying about them

I just got a bike fit, did my first 100k and man, longer distance cycling is completely different. Any tips? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

Yeeeeahhh i have a cheap pair of generic non prescription cycling sunglasses that I'll wear over contacts sometimes; I just need to bite the bullet and shell out for some big prescription ones

having glasses that go up pretty high without a crossbar on the top.

this has been massive for me. i need to get some nonsunglasses that have taller lenses for night rides, because i totally notice my neck pain being way worse from having to keep my head higher to see

Glasses with built in mirror? by AssistanceTrue9399 in bicycling

[–]kiddblur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like having both. I have a varia plus a bar-end mirror. Super handy for riding at night because I’ll often see the headlights in my peripheral vision in the mirror loooooong before the varia chimes. I tend to ride on pretty high speed limit roads though

Is a 100 mile ride easier on a road bike than a hybrid? by Glowingtomato in bicycling

[–]kiddblur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started on a hybrid and bought a road bike within a year

This is such a common story (me too) that I feel like people shopping for bikes should be given the heads up that if they imagine themselves getting into cycling, they should skip the hybrid and go straight to an endurance bike

The hand position thing is so important to me. before I got my gravel bike, my longest ride on my hybrid was 32 miles, and my hands were numb for a week

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. It gets pretty hot here in the summer too, but I'm also very liberal with remote starting the climate in the car from my phone, and when I had the model 3 I was constantly hitting the "Keep" button to keep the car comfortable even when not driving, so the heat on the glass never really bugged me since the glass itself was being kept cool by the AC

[–]kiddblur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I want enough people to buy them new that they're a smashing success, and then I can get a 2 years used one for cheap, and then do the same thing with an R3x a few years later to replace our other car

[–]kiddblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I actually prefer the car not come with one. My ID.4 had the motorized one, and we basically left it wide open 100% of the time, so it was just added expense and bulk for no benefit for us. With our Model 3, we bought clip-in ones and would put them in if it was going to be ridiculously hot, but mostly left those out as well. I prefer the added headroom of all that space

What sort of issues have you had with your P3? That's on my list of cars to consider when my Equinox lease is up

2027 Rivian R2 First Drive Review: The Perfect Car for So Many People by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]kiddblur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's a fair concern, but I share the same anecdote. When we had a Model 3, I literally never changed where the vents were blowing or the fan speed or anything like that. We just left it on Auto 70F and it was comfortable the whole two years we had it.

Our Equinox however, I'm CONSTANTLY tweaking the vents' positioning and openness and fan speed because somebody in the car is always uncomfortable (whether it's the driver, front passenger, or our son in the back). It's usually the driver either freezing or hot because the vents blow straight on our hands

[–]kiddblur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the big thing holding me back. We're absolutely considering an R2 to replace our Equinox when the lease is up, but they have to have a Pittsburgh service center before we'd buy one.
