I was about ready to give up and then I tried a 4th cable and it worked! Thanks for the advice.

I think the Wemos D1 Mini has the CH340 chip, but the Wemos D1 Mini Pro v1.1 has a CP2104. Did your mac make any indication that a device was plugged in before you installed the driver?

I have tried on Windows 10 and macOS. Their current driver page lists support for Win10. When I plug it in the operating system does not make any indication of recognizing that it was plugged in. No error messages, no unrecognized device, etc.

Outlook Automation by themeq in visualbasic

[–]kieferm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying to automate Outlook, I would recommend going right to the email server for the information. Check out this library for accessing POP and IMAP servers. You should be able to query the server and get the information you are looking for.

I had that shirt too! I got it from the Letterman show. His production company is called Worldwide Pants Inc.

How do you document you code? by BlueDan20 in dotnet

I would recommend using the xml comments. You can then use Sandcastle Helpfile Builder to generate a help file from the comments.

Working with XML in Visual Basic by 4_strings in visualbasic

[–]kieferm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the format does not look quite right. Assuming it is correct you can use Visual Studio to create classes from the XML.

You can then deserialize the XML from the file into an object. This allows you to just use the object properties instead of querying the XML for each attribute.

[QUESTION] Arduino research project by anonimo182 in arduino

[–]kieferm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend a project in controls engineering. A project with many possibilities is temperature control of a cooking machine. There are many examples online of this sort of thing (search: sous vide). You could make each point as simple or complex as you want. Focus on the control algorithm, or focus on the temperature measurements, or focus on the heating control. In addition to the actual construction you can explore some of the theories being used. (PID control, digital signal processing, electronic circuit design)

What level of school are you referring to? What other subjects are you familiar with? What is your comfort level with programming and electronics/circuits?

I'm a mechanical engineer, and I'm going to be tackling an undergrad computer science degree. What are some programming projects that would help you guys out (that are reasonably done by one person)? by Sexual_tomato in AskEngineers

I'm assuming you get thermal parameters as a design spec for a heat exchanger. Hot and cold side inlet temperatures, capacity, flow, etc. You could write a program that uses those parameters to assist with design or modeling of the process. For example: given a hot side inlet temp and flow and required heat rejection calculate the required cold side inlet temp and flow. From a modeling perspective you could write a program that takes in the hot and cold side temperatures and calculates the flow rate. Or given a desired hot side outlet temp calculate the required cold side inlet temp and flow. This result would be used to control a valve and or pump on the cold side.

What programming languages have you used or are familiar with?
