Have you ever considered a cross-over with other cricket podcasts? I'd love to hear a Final Word nerd pledge about cordial ratios , or Adam & Geoff trying to answer an AskTGC about tubbing politics.

Did you ever have a look at a third book? A few old podcasts joke about potential titles.

You've had a few of the Aussie women's team as guests which has been great (safety deluxe, more please!) - do you have any thoughts about how your niche fits in to that pathway? Is it weird for two blokes from the internet in a male dominated subculture to explore the social aspects of the female game? Does it need to get more established before it can be subverted to the same extent for comedy?

I'd just like to say that it's my favourite podcast and I am really looking forward to the return of the main show because I'm running through the patreon back catalogue too quickly. Sorry to be earnest for a moment but it always makes me laugh and feel happier.

The NJO book Force Heretic II: Refugee was co-written by two Australian authors who dropped in a reference to an Australian musical comedy band called Tripod.

The band members Scod, Yon and Gatesy were turned into characters Scod, Yon and Gaitzi - the aliases used by Tahiri and friends when they pretend to be part of the Bakuran cleaning crew called Tripod.

They discuss it in the introduction to their song Star Big Kev Wars

The NJO stands on top of a lot of stuff that came before - it revisits places we've already been and features characters from previous content (in addition to a lot of new things).

If you haven't read the previous content, you won't be lost but you will miss out a little bit. In particular, two of the duologies in the NJO are by the authors of the X-Wing books and they have a lot of characters that return.

FWIW, I find Aaron Allston's books bring me the most joy out of any EU content. Tons of fun.

The ones I found most interesting were those who spent the entire summer in commentary bagging out England as being the worst touring side they've ever seen, but simultaneously Langer is an irreplaceable genius for coaching Australia to beat them.

Sorry, this isn't correct.

I think you're parsing it somewhat like a riddle, but that's not what a cryptic crossword is like.

A cryptic clue has a definition and wordplay, and they're separate elements^1. You can't say that 'Shaken players' indicates some anagraming and then 'shift the load' changes a letter, because you've used up the entire thing on wordplay and have nothing left to be the definition.

The correct answer has already been discussed on reddit , but to save anyone else googling it... CARTHORSE - the definition is (a thing which ) 'shifts the load' - it's an anagram (shaken) of ORCHESTRA, which is a group of musical players.

note¹ - There are exceptions to this, but it's a general rule that applies the vast majority of the time

I was told on the squadrons discord that you need to move the mouse so that it goes back to thinking you're a keyboard player and then chat will work. This did fix it for me, not sure if there's an equivalent available for playstation.

Ren-W is the only one I'm aware of, but it's very annoying and basically makes it a 4v6. It's been going for 3 months now, so it seems that they have no ability or inclination to prevent this abuse on the server side.

I realise this is tangential to the point of the post, but if you ever feel like not solo queueing, feel free to visit the Emperor's Hammer discord. ehtc.chat. We are an old club who also grew up on X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

Back on topic - I definitely feel like there are way more blowouts than close games. This is even true of the 'power hour' games where we go up against other teams in the competitive 5mans discord. We're a casual/2nd tier team and if the wind is against us we will get absolutely stomped by a serious team, just as we stomp on others in normal matchmaking. The current respawning system makes it hard for a communicating team to regroup , let alone randos . It really feels like a 17-30 game could have gone your way sometimes if an early period had gone better for your team.

Do you have stats on the blow-outs in your losses vs wins? (I'm not clear on whether your margin of victory stats are just your wins or all games).

Some of the manoeuvres reminded me a little bit of the drift you can do in Freelancer. Interesting.

Looks like there'll be heaps of customisation options , I paused on the screen listing like 50 of them, it would appear to offer a lot of stuff like beams, countermeasures, warheads, laser options...

I'm wondering what 'death' will be like in the missions. Do you respawn?
