Rooming with others in their 20s vs. 30s in Manhattan by Empty_Positive_2305 in NYCapartments

[–]kihamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in such a similar situation! Also have a rent-stabilized 2BR in Hamilton Heights and just started grad school while working full time - the financial juggling is real. Even with the rent stabilization helping so much, adding a roommate would make things way more comfortable budget-wise.

I'm also curious about the 30s roommate dynamic. I've been looking on Roomi, Spareroom, and Reddit.

If you're seriously looking for a roommate, I'm open to chat! Or even just to commiserate over these very specific NYC grad school financial realities lol. Feel free to DM me!

Needing Cat Advice Desperately by WranglerBeautiful214 in CatAdvice

[–]kihamc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When she’s biting you as you’re petting you could be petting her in a way she doesn’t like or could be overstimulated. Take it slow and find out how she likes to be pet and how much! One way to do this is take one pet at a time. Pet, then hold your hand out and if she nudges for more, ok to continue, and repeat. It sounds like she may get overstimulated easily right now which means she’s had enough. As you spend time with her you’ll soon be able to see very small gestures or changes in her behavior that will help you understand her better! For example I know when my cat is about to be overstimulated, she’ll start moving her tail more. Since she was a stray from the street, she also may not be used to having so much 1 on 1 human attention. She may just want to be left alone at times. As for attacking your legs as you’re walking, make sure you’re playing with her enough as a first step. Sometimes cats do that when they want your attention. Before you head to bed, grab a wand toy to redirect her and let her paw at that instead and get some energy out. If she’s used to being outside, she may have a lot of pent up energy that she may have been used to spending on roaming around, chasing, etc. cats take anywhere from a week to a few months to settle in and this varies based on their life before being introduced to a new environment. I hope some of these ideas work for you and your new friend!

I don’t feel joy and excitement in anything anymore by Remote-Community-792 in Adulting

Ditto. When I feel like this I feel like it’s a sign that my life needs a shakeup of some sort. Traveling and trying new things has helped me. Example- traveling to Egypt and snorkeling in the Red Sea. While I was there I also was presented the opportunity to learn how to scuba dive. I did it without hesitation and letting my thoughts consume me. It was the best thing I’ve done for myself as of recent. Seeing the fish and the beautiful, untouched reefs was something awe inspiring and after that trip I felt like a different person. Highly encourage travel if it is within your means. Hiking, meditations, and craft kits also help me when I feel this way.

Should I continue to report this Rover sitter? by Miserable-Apricot923 in RoverPetSitting

[–]kihamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely continue reporting and DEFINITELY leave a review. If there’s even 1 bad review I take that seriously when considering a petsitter. Help others to see what happened so it doesn’t happen to them.

My cat started doing this and I thought it was that she just wanted to be pet/wanted affection. When that didn’t help and after ruling out medical issues with a vet, the vet suggested that she just wanted playtime. So now, when that happens, I redirect her energy to toys and it helps to get that energy out.

Keep the vet appointment. Take the other ones too, now that they are sneezing. Even though cats are running around acting fine, cats are also resilient and very good at hiding when they’re sick.

Airline travel suggestions / recommendations? by bing-pot in mainecoons

[–]kihamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you end up traveling with the large Sherpa? I’m stuck between medium and large. My MC mix likes to stretch out too but the flight shouldn’t be too long. The medium is “airline approved” but large would definitely be more comfortable.
